I wish I was better at getting photos of market!😭
We had SUCH AN INCREDIBLE turnout on Saturday!

It was our third Kids Bucks weekend of the season, Monica from Highland Community College Agriculture program was the sponsor and distributor of the bucks.
She brought fun posters/stickers/tote bags and information about the Highland Ag Program.
She handed out 48 Kids Bucks!!!

That's $240 that empowered kids to make their own local food purchases- everything from plants, honey, eggs, tomatoes, yogurt, & more produce!

To see the excitement on the kids faces 🤩
And all those funds went directly to the farmers!!

Special thanks to United Way of Northwest Illinois and SSM Health for the additional sponsorship of this program, allowing us to expand this program and reach more kids.

One of the best parts about the Saturday after Paint the Port is getting downtown early to stroll through the finished squares and take in all the incredible artwork. And while you’re downtown, be sure to stop by the Market on the corner of Exchange St and Adams Ave!

We are so excited to give a BIG shout-out to the Stephenson County Farmers Market for sponsoring this year’s Paint the Port as a Monet Level Sponsor!

Their mission is to cultivate a locally sourced community culture by bringing together farmers, producers, and artists to sell their products directly to the community, while also providing education, entertainment, and inspiration to market-goers.

We are so happy for the collaboration with SSM Health Monroe and the Stephenson County Farmers Market and the Kids Bucks initiative that the Market has started this year.
This initiative is allowing youth to learn budgeting and thinking through how far dollars can go, with an added bonus of healthy eating and has an amazing group of local sponsors supporting the initiative.

If you have not been to the Market yet, this weekend is the perfect weekend to go and take the kids for the Kids Bucks Vouchers.

Here are the details from the Stephenson County Farmers Market coordinators:
"We are THRILLED to announce new partnership for our Kids Bucks program! Through the generosity of United Way of Northwest Illinois and SSM Health, we are able to lift the 15 kids limit on the Kids Bucks!
We are so grateful for all of our Kids Bucks sponsors, who believed in the mission of empowering kids to shop local and make healthy food choices at the market.

Kids ages 2-17 get $5 in vouchers to spend at the market (same day redemption). The bucks can be spent on anything except non-food items and sweet treats (sorry kiddos, hah). The goal is to encourage kids to make their own food choices, and interact with the farmer/producer who provides it!
