A little update on Noodle. ❤️

About 6–8 weeks ago, Noodle (our Sable doeling) had a freak accident in the barn. She somehow got caught on a piece of metal tin, and it ripped the skin off nearly her entire shoulder. It was a pretty severe injury, and we honestly weren’t sure how she was going to heal.

After lots of wound care, medications, and time, she’s done so much better than we ever expected. She’s been a tough gal through the whole process. Today, you can barely tell what happened. She still has some healing to do, but we’re hopeful she’ll make a full recovery.

We’re so thankful for our vet that took a look a her after hours and how resilient these little goats can be. Pictures are in the comments as they are a bit grim…

🧇AVAILABLE DOE! 🧇

Winning Streak CM Order Up 2*M

“Waffles” is the illustration of dairy strength and femininity. She combines openness and angularity with plenty of capacity, all while maintaining a balanced, correct frame. I especially appreciate her level topline, length of body, and the way she carries herself with style. One of those “hate to see her go but love to watch her leave” type!

She’s a productive doe with a nicely attached mammary system and the kind of overall correctness that makes her a valuable addition to any herd. She’s easy going on the milk stand and loves to be milked (even when she’s not in-milk!) 😂

🛫Change is in the air here at RoundUp TailsUp Ranch!🛬

Over the past few months, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about what this next season of life should look like for our family. As much as we love our goats, we’ve realized we also want more freedom to spend weekends making memories with our kids while they’re still little. They’re only young once and we don’t want to miss these years because we’re tied to a large herd and an endless chore list.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to significantly reduce our Nigerian herd. This isn’t goodbye to dairy goats…it’s simply a new direction for our program.

Our Sable project has officially grown into much more than a project. It has become the future of our herd. We’ve absolutely fallen in love with their easygoing personalities, their willingness to milk, and everything they bring to our barn. We’re excited to continue growing and improving our Sable herd while keeping things at a size that’s enjoyable for our family.

The Nigerians that do stay won’t be going very far! They’ll become the foundation of our daughter’s herd, Little TailsUp Ranch. We’re excited to watch her grow up alongside them and make her own memories in the goat world. We hope she’ll develop the same love for these animals that we have.
This wasn’t a decision we made overnight. We’ve put years into building this herd, and these girls mean a lot to us. Our hope is that they’ll find homes where they’ll continue to be loved, appreciated, and help other breeders reach their own goals…just as they’ve helped us reach some of ours.

Our available bucks have already found their new homes but we’ll be posting our available girls soon. Stay tuned if you’ve been looking to add some quality does to your herd!

A few pictures from our weekend at the SMDGA show!

It was long, hot, and rainy, but we had such a great time anyway. Crazy weather is just part of showing goats in MO sometimes I guess. 🤪

We were excited to see Dodah bring home a Reserve Champion ribbon! 👏 However, I think our favorite part was getting to watch Madi participate in her very first showmanship and youth show, and she did so well! She definitely turned on the charm for the judge. If you know Madi, you know she’s a talker, so she had no problem keeping the judge company in the ring.

Thank you to everyone who made the youth/open show possible and to anyone who held or entertained Hayden for me so I got to eat or use the restroom! Bring a 16-month-old to the goat show they said….

Overall I’m really happy with how the herd scored!

We had several girls score in the mid/high 80s and I feel like the results really gave us a clearer picture of both our strengths and the things we still need to work on. It definitely made me excited for the direction we’re headed.

Naked truth time (iykyk) but I think most of us goat people can all relate….
The anticipation season is over for most of us. All the goats have had their babies and we’re doing what we need to do to keep our girls healthy in milk and our babies fed. But somewhere in the middle of all the mundane chores, I started questioning… why the heck are we doing this??

Lately, I just haven’t really been feeling the “fun” in it. Why are we getting up in the early early mornings to milk, or spending hours in the barn after work? This definitely isn’t the easy way to spend our free time or with our kids. It’s not like we’re even getting a regular paycheck in return for all these hours…

Then yesterday we had our Linear Appraisal. A term that was quickly becoming a curse word at our house between all the clipping, hoof trimming, and trying to calculate proper fill times for all our girls. It felt like preparing for a goat show x50.

But honestly… dare I say… it was worth it. 😬

We learned so much. We got to see both our strengths and weaknesses in real time, but most importantly, I feel like we finally have a plan or at least a clearer path for where I want this herd of ours to go and (maybe) how to get there. That “blah” feeling I’d been having is (mostly) gone. It’s exciting again.

Our girls did so well, and I’ll post their results later! 😍

Also, a huge thank you to Kristina VanAken for being such an amazing host herd. We truly appreciate you letting us join you at your farm!

I listened to Taylor’s award acceptance speech yesterday and it really stuck with me not just personally but also in the world of goats…

Breeding goats is something like 40% craft, 30% luck, and 30% actual genetics (yes, I just made that up- but you get the point). No matter how much you plan, there are always pieces you can’t control.

I’ll be honest—sometimes I struggle to trust the process. I tend to overthink and try to control outcomes that just aren’t fully in my hands.

One of my goals this year is to simplify while still learning and improving. To bring it back to a version of the goat world that feels steady instead of overwhelming. At the end of the day, so much of this is a waiting game. I’m working on being patient, focusing on my own herd, and not getting caught up in what everyone else is doing.

Just giving myself the time to make mistakes, keep learning, and really hone the craft. 🧬⏳

The popstar took home the night’s top prize at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. In her acceptance speech, she spoke about how songwriting started out as a "hobby" for her. "Thank you for allowing me to turn my hobby into a love, into a passion, into a dream, into a career," she said.

Sweet Azalea had a really rough kidding—gotta love these FFs…. Not. The kids were presented incorrectly, which made things a bit intense and long.

She ended up having had triplet bucklings but unfortunately, we only ended up with one little man after getting everyone repositioned and helping her through. Three (or more) is not my fave for an FF!!

Now the good news—this little guy is a fighter and Azelea is recovering well. Little dude is now full of s***k and we’re optimistic he’ll keep growing and thriving despite his small start. ☺️
He already has a wonderful pet home and will be adored by many!
