Over the years, LEAF has grown into much more than a community garden. Our Urban Gardens have become living classrooms, soil science labs, and community spaces that empower people to learn, connect, and grow together.

As our work expanded beyond growing food to include education, soil science research, and community building, we realized our brand and website no longer reflected the full breadth of LEAF. Over the past year, we've taken time to listen, reflect, and clarify who we are and how to get involved.

Our refreshed brand and website are designed to better tell LEAF's story. We invite you to explore them by swiping through the carousel ☝️ or browsing our new website at the link in the comments, and let us know what you think!

Keeping your garden healthy doesn’t have to involve synthetic chemicals. Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring practical ways to prevent and manage pest problems while supporting a thriving garden ecosystem.
Learn how to identify common garden pests and recognize signs of damage, encourage beneficial insects and other natural predators, use physical barriers, traps, and companion planting strategies, and apply organic and low-impact pest management techniques safely and effectively.

Whether you have seedlings you've grown from seed or seedlings you have purchased, it’s time to get them into the ground! Join us for a hands-on workshop designed to set your garden up for a thriving growing season.

Learn how to:
• Create loose, fertile soil rich in organic matter
• Properly acclimate (harden off) your seedlings to outdoor conditions
• Space plants correctly and plant at the right depth

Plus, we’ll tackle a common challenge — removing plants from containers without damage — with a live demonstration and practice!

Our June newsletter is online! This month, we are highlighting a few things, including our work with Stanford’s Earth Systems Program’s Environmental Storytelling Class and a site visit by Tri-City Interfaith Council. Inviting groups like these to LEAF is part of our focus on building community. Are you involved with a local community group? We’d love to collaborate with you!

Our Seedling Sale is ongoing through Father’s Day, June 21st. We’ve added lots of summer veggie seedlings that are now on sale - buy online and pick up at the LEAF Urban Farm, or buy directly at the LEAF Urban Farm, on Thursdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

And as always, we have plenty of upcoming events at the LEAF Community Garden, the LEAF Urban Farm, and partner Alameda County Library branches. See upcoming events and read it all via our linktree, and sign up to receive future newsletters with the QR code on the second slide or at the link in the comments!

Join us at the LEAF Community Garden on Saturday, June 13th, 10 a.m. - Noon, for the June session of our Creative Reuse series as we finger knit together using yarn made from recycled T-shirts!

We're also having a bonus session of our Creative Reuse Series at the Fremont Main Library!

We'll work together to make friendship bracelets using yarn made from recycled T-shirts.

This class is a part of our Creative Reuse series. Through Creative Reuse, we put materials that would have been thrown away to good use. Our goal is to save and use yarn and other craft supplies that would otherwise be thrown away and use them. Please bring any yarn, notions, t-shirts, or plastic storage boxes you would like to donate to the class. Donating craft supplies or cash helps us offer this class series for free.

Every harvest at LEAF is made possible by our incredible community of volunteers. From planting and tending crops to harvesting, weighing, and delivering fresh produce to our local food bank partners, their dedication helps transform our gardens into a source of nourishment for our neighbors.

Whether you’re interested in regenerative agriculture, passionate about local food systems, or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend time outdoors, there’s a place for you at LEAF. Join us as a volunteer and help grow food, knowledge, and community.

Our volunteer days are Mondays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the LEAF Urban Farm, as well as every first Saturday of the month at the LEAF Community Garden and every second Sunday of the month at the LEAF Urban Farm.
