Heritage Hearth Farm

Heritage Hearth Farm Blue Rivers Farm Blue Rivers Farm is a small 5 acre farm growing in French Camp. There will also be postings about breeding, birth and cute baby pictures.

We started about 10 years about with a trio of rabbits and have continued to grow. Our goal is to be as self sustainable as possible and assist those near us with healthy, local food products. We are currently offering rabbit for animal food as well as USDA approved for human consumption. We specialize in heritage breed rabbits, goats and ducks and hope to offer more meat options as well as fruit

and vegatable options as we attempt to grow more than our family of 7 can eat. We will be posting on ALL aspects of farm life so understand that there will be postings about processing animals, the death of animals due to preditors and many other unpleasant facts of life. On a farm it is all the cycle of life one day at a time.

Life is a continual cycle. Life to death. I watched as this guy took his first breath. I helped him stand on his wobbly legs and when he didn’t nurse after a few hours I bottle fed him until he got his strength.
He knows me and moos when he is not fed on time. He loves the watermelon that my son brings to him.
Now today I went into the house because I could not be present when the butcher took his life, but I still heard that instant moment. I sucked in my breath as he let Out his last.
He will be missed and he will be remembered. When we sit down to eat we will thank him for his sacrifice, honoring his life that was lived well and with good care. Being present and fully engaged with my food is the choice that I made to honor myself, my world and the animals in my care. It is no longer the norm of our culture to be so deeply connected but I can not be any other way.
