Lately when I’ve been posting eggs or animals for sale, I’ve had a lot of people ask the price and then respond that it’s “too much” or “ridiculous.”
What gets overlooked is the cost that goes into feed, care, time, and especially breeding quality animals with good genetics and proven production/hatch results.
For example, I posted Royal Palm turkey eggs and clearly stated I can’t guarantee hatch rate, but this season we’ve had very strong success—only a handful haven’t hatched. Even at the price given, it came out to about $3.33 per egg, when I normally price them at $4 each. I even offered to go lower, which brought them to about $2.50 per egg.
I understand not every price works for everyone, but there’s a lot behind the scenes that goes into producing quality hatching eggs beyond just the number on them.
Here’s a photo of the gobbler and hens we have.
If you all have turkeys, what do you price your hatching eggs at per dozen?
