This morning, the fog from the river crept up through the trees, giving the farm a mystic quality. I stepped outside took a deep appreciative breath, thinking about the ethereal smell of autumn leafs. Instead I got a lungful of stinky male goat. Christ almighty.I live with those smelly bastards all year, you'd think I would be used to this by now. But not when they go to their A game in the fall. Cough, cough. ugh.

This chicken choir singing Christmas carols is no clucking joke.

This morning Sharon is out chasing one of the Boar females. Those damn boars are starting to make me wish I never decided to raise a separate herd, The fainters stay put, the boars tear the fencing down. Having fun on your day off from your day job sharon? The goats don't want you to pine away by not playing with them.If it wasn't for the coyotes I would just give up on fences and let them run loose. I stepped outside this morning, the wind was just right, the farm is a heady mixture of garlic and eau de male goat. Wow. I mean, just wow. That is a combination that is not to be forgotten any time soon and I am used to the boy goats autumn after shave lotion. Applied liberally to make sure the girls on the other side of the ridge are thinking of them and vise versa. The dehydrators blowing out strong garlic smell adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the musk ambiance of the farm. [on a normal day the farm smells like cedar trees] Spraying everything in sight started early this year, the boys started to look nasty and brown at the end of july. I have no idea what this means, are they like woolly bears? Winter to be determined by the size of the bands on their bellies? The date and level of stink indicating winter will be more than unusually stinko? I hope not. I am not up to shoveling snow.

Sharon has been rounding up this years crop of babies for sale, lots of good fainters in the mix. we still don't know how many we have for sale, right now it is a roiling mass of goats, we can't even remember which are the girls [there are not too many, something like three] People ask me how many goats we have, I honestly don't know at this time of year. I have one small female adult we are selling one adult male, and some friends are giving three girls of their own to put in to sell, that may put us around 25 to advertise, wow. wish there were more girls though, all the boys have been gelded and are suitable for pets or companion animals. contact me if you are looking to buy.
