Community Peaceful Rally at California State Capitol Calls for Peace and Justice, Protection of Human Life
Sacramento, CA — Sunday, January 11 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
California State Capitol
Cambodian American community members, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations, and allies will gather at the California State Capitol on Sunday, January 11, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, for a peaceful, nonpartisan rally calling for peace, humanitarian protection, and the preservation of human life in Cambodia.
The rally is organized in response to ongoing violence and instability affecting civilians in Cambodia, which has deeply impacted Cambodian diaspora communities across California. Many participants are survivors of the Khmer Rouge genocide, refugees, and descendants of survivors who continue to carry intergenerational trauma. Others have family members and loved ones currently living in Cambodia, heightening fear, grief, and distress.
“This rally is not political. It is a humanitarian call for peace. For many in our community, current violence is re-traumatizing- it reopens wounds from genocide, displacement, and loss. We are gathering to bear witness, to grieve collectively, and to demand peace and protection for innocent lives,” said Dr. Kara Uy Has , President & Executive Director of the Cambodian American Resources Agency (CARA).
The peaceful rally will include:
-Interfaith prayers and blessings
-Community speakers and survivor voices
-A call for unity, peace, and humanitarian action
-Space for reflection, remembrance, and collective healing
Community members will carry Cambodian and American flags and peace messages as a symbol of solidarity and hope.
The event is supported by Cambodian-serving nonprofits, temples, cultural organizations, and community leaders throughout California. Organizers emphasize that the gathering is rooted in peace, remembrance, and care for human life, and welcomes people of all backgrounds.
“Our community understands the cost of war. We know what happens when the world looks away” said Eddie Moth, Cambodian Community Leader. This rally is about ensuring that human lives are protected and that the voices of survivors and families are seen and heard,” added Pholy Meas, Teacher and Vice President of Khmer Youth of Modesto.
