CONSPIRACY THEORY DEBUNK:
“THEY PLANNED THE CLOSURE SO THEY COULD HAVE A HUGE GRAND REOPENING.”
Okay… this one actually deserves some facts.
The theory seems to be that we intentionally created this huge goodbye, closed the doors, let everyone think we were gone, and somehow planned all of this so we could come back with a giant grand reopening.
If that was the plan… we deserve an award for the worst-planned master plan ever. 😂
Here’s what actually happened:
➡️ We genuinely believed we were closing. We made decisions, communicated those decisions, prepared for our final day, and said goodbye to our customers and staff based on the information we had at the time.
➡️ We could have lied. We could have tried to save face, hide the embarrassment, and come up with some convenient story about the business being sold, the license being purchased, or “new owners” taking over. We didn’t.
We chose honesty. Even though admitting we had to change course was embarrassing and uncomfortable, we told people the truth as it unfolded.
➡️ We could have stayed closed. Nobody forced us to reopen. Walking away would have been the easy option once we had already announced the closure.
➡️ Losing 11 days of sales isn’t exactly the smartest business move either. If this had all been some carefully planned marketing strategy, intentionally giving up 11 days of revenue would be a pretty terrible way to execute it.
➡️ Instead, we chose to reopen. And reopening isn’t some magical reset button. We had already started winding things down, so now we’re scrambling to rebuild inventory, restock product, get everything operational again, and make sure we have adequate staffing.
➡️ We are literally scrounging for product right now. Freezers that were being emptied have to be filled again. Supplies that we stopped ordering have to be reordered. Things we weren’t planning on needing anymore suddenly need to be found ASAP.
➡️ We’re rebuilding our staffing. People had made plans based on the store closing. Schedules, availability and employment decisions don’t magically reverse overnight because we changed course.
➡️ And then there’s the almost $4,000 in outstanding gift card balances.
We’ve actually been reaching out to customers prior to the closure even, who still have balances and reminding them to come use them.
Why would we do that if this was some giant scheme?
We already received the money for those gift cards. If the plan was to “close, make our money, create hype, and come back for a grand reopening,” why would we voluntarily remind people to come redeem nearly $4,000 that we already collected?
That makes absolutely no sense.
The truth is, there was no secret master plan.
There wasn’t a five-step marketing strategy where we sat around saying:
“Okay guys, let’s close the business, empty the freezers, say goodbye to everybody, give up 11 days of sales, embarrass ourselves publicly, create a staffing nightmare, scramble to find product, and then reopen for a grand reopening.”
That would be the dumbest business plan ever created.
Things changed. We made a decision based on those changes. Then circumstances changed AGAIN, and we made another decision.
And here’s the difference: we could have hidden behind a story that made us look better. We didn’t.
We chose to be honest, even when honesty meant admitting we had gotten ahead of ourselves and had to change direction.
Is this reopening more complicated than simply unlocking the doors? Absolutely.
Are we scrambling? Absolutely.
Are we trying to make sure we have enough product, enough staff and everything ready before we open? 100%.
And if anyone thinks we somehow orchestrated all of this months ago just to create hype for a grand reopening…
Congratulations. You have officially given us WAY too much credit for planning.
We’re not executing some elaborate scheme.
We’re literally over here trying to figure out how to get enough product in the building, enough people on the schedule, and everything ready to open our doors again.
Conspiracy theory: respectfully debunked.
And to everyone who stuck with us through all of this — thank you. We know it’s been a wild ride. We can’t wait to see you again.
