This is by no means a slam against our local Sheriff’s Office but rather a message to elected officials! Today we had a truck filled with soybeans heading into town to market at the Coshocton Grain Company. We were pulled over on Second Street because the truck “looked full”. We cooperated and pulled onto the new county portable scales which we were informed cost $60,000 and we would have to pay for damages if there were any as we pulled onto the scales. The officer did his job as he was trained to do and we were overweight. The deputy didn’t write a ticket as he said this was an educational period but would eventually become enforced. We like to fill trucks so we don’t have to take extra loads which burn more fuel, tires, and most importantly time. We are proud to buy our seed, fertilizer, chemicals, tires, fuel, equipment, parts, feed, and much more locally. We also are thrilled to market our crops to places like Coshocton Grain Company, Three Rivers Energy and Ge**er & Sons. We are frustrated that we are now forced to become more inefficient with loads or spend hundreds of thousands to upgrade our truck fleet that we use for 30-60 days of the year, just so we can both be efficient and “legal”. We always have felt like the county Sheriff’s Office has been on our side but after today it’s hard to feel that way. Elected officials made this problem and they can make it go away. Agriculture is Coshocton County’s #1 industry!!!! Let’s spend tax dollars somewhere else! God bless America and the Farmers who feed it!
