Here’s a full DIY recipe/tutorial to
Materials
Clear flat glass gems (about 150–200)
Blue glass gems or marbles for accent color
1 inflatable balloon OR foam ball
Hot glue gun & clear glue sticks
Petroleum jelly or plastic wrap
Strong fishing line or thin wire
Small suction cup hook or hanging hook
Optional:
LED fairy lights
Clear spray sealant
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Mold
Inflate a balloon to the size you want your orb.
Lightly coat the balloon with petroleum jelly OR wrap it in plastic wrap.
This prevents the glue from sticking permanently.
Step 2: Arrange the Glass Gems
Begin at the bottom center of the balloon.
Glue the flat gems edge-to-edge.
Mix blue gems throughout for the decorative pattern.
Continue building upward until the entire sphere is covered.

Tip:

Leave a small opening at the top for hanging.
Step 3: Reinforce the Structure
Add extra hot glue between gaps inside the orb.
Allow everything to cool completely for 1–2 hours.
Step 4: Remove the Balloon
Pop the balloon carefully.
Pull the balloon pieces out through the top opening.

You’ll now have a hollow glass orb.

Step 5: Add Hanging Loop
Thread fishing line or wire through the top.
Tie securely.
Attach to a suction cup hook or tree branch.
Optional Upgrades
Solar Light Version

Place battery fairy lights inside before sealing.

Garden Gazing Ball

Seal the opening and place on a stand.

Wind Spinner Style

Hang several at different heights.

Tips for Success
Use high-temp clear glue for stronger hold.
Work in small sections so glue stays hot.
Flat-backed gems work best.
Larger balloons create more dramatic orbs.
Estimated Cost
Glass gems: $10–15
Glue sticks: $5
Fishing line/hooks: $3

Total: about $20 or less

Best Places to Hang
Garden trees
Porch corners
Sunny windows
Patio pergolas
