Meet the Producer: Midnight’s Farm

Lopez Island is home to the vibrant and diverse , where fourth-generation islander Faith Van De Putte and David Bill steward 100 acres using regenerative farming practices.

Their farm does a little bit of everything—and does it well.

Right now, you can find fresh herbs like tarragon, sage, oregano, and mint on the Food Hub, along with rhubarb, edible flowers, garlic scapes, and a variety of lettuces. Don’t miss their crunchy Little Gem lettuces, available in mixed bags of red, speckled, and green varieties—perfect for sandwiches and salads.

Beyond produce, Midnight’s Farm raises Murray Grey beef and heritage-breed pork, available by the cut. The farm also operates the first Washington State-certified compost facility in San Juan County, offering compost and wood chips to help fuel your own garden.

Stewardship, community, and education guide every decision at Midnight’s Farm. Stop by their farm stand for dinner fixings—and stay for a yoga class.

Our new ordering site has launched at https://sjifh.provisions.coop. 🌱👏 Seasoned users will need to create a new account on the new site (click “sign up”). Although the website and login are new, you will still access the same great products and producers with the San Juan food hub.

Order Friday at noon through Sunday evening each week. Pickup times and locations will remain the same: Taproot Community Kitchen on Lopez Wednesdays after noon; San Juan Brickworks in Friday Harbor Wednesdays 4-5:30 pm; and Orcas Food Coop Thursdays after 8 am.

The new platform works like regular online shopping: put stuff in a cart and buy it. 🛒There’s no extra confirmation step, and you also can’t edit your order all weekend long anymore. If you want additional items, place a second order. We’ll still pack everything together for you as usual. We will be waiting until after pick-up to run charges as usual, and you’ll get a final invoice adjusted for the exact prices of meats and any substitutions we need to make.

We owe tremendous thanks to Colin Stewart and C-Group, the engineers building our new platform, and to our own Adam Greene for dusting off his coding skills and working around the clock as a volunteer these past couple of months to help realize our new home with provisions. Also great thanks to for helping support the backend of the new system. 👏

We’re still ironing out some things behind the scenes. Please get in touch if you’re having difficulty with access. Come on over to https://sjifh.provisions.coop to check it out! (and don't forget to create a new account!)

If you’ve never tried cooking with rhubarb, your window of opportunity is officially open! One of the first perennial crops to emerge in spring, its arrival is a sure sign the season is turning—and a reason to celebrate 🎉

Wonderful as a jam, compote, or pie filling—delicious on its own or mixed with fruits like apples or berries 🍓 Try it served over soft goat cheese or alongside a tender pork chop (also available on the Food Hub!)

Feeling a little more adventurous? Try a savory twist by pickling it or using it as a base for a tangy barbecue sauce 🔥

This spring staple crop is abundant, versatile, and perfect for canning or freezing to enjoy long after the season ends.

Enjoy!

Thank you, Midnights Farm 💛

There’s yogurt… and then there’s yogurt the way it was meant to be.

This week on the Food Hub, we’re featuring sheep’s milk yogurt from Lum Farm on Orcas Island—silky, tangy, and deeply nourishing. Made entirely on-farm from their Friesian milk sheep, this yogurt connects you to a long-standing food tradition where sheep’s milk was the original standard.

Rich in protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients, sheep’s milk yogurt is often easier to digest than cow’s milk—and the flavor is clean, bright, and just the right amount of tang.

Lum Farm is known for their thoughtful, land-based practices and commitment to producing high-quality, nutrient-dense food right here in the San Juan Islands. This is one of those simple foods that feels both indulgent and deeply supportive to your body.

Add a jar to your order this week and taste the difference for yourself.

🥩 More than a meal — a story of heritage, land, and care

This week on the Food Hub, we’re highlighting Clun Forest lamb chops from — a premium cut often called “lamb lollipops” for their tenderness and rich, deeply satisfying flavor.

But what makes these chops truly special goes beyond the plate.

The sheep behind this lamb are part of a heritage breed with roots in the rugged hills of Wales. Clun Forest sheep have been carefully bred over generations for their hardiness, strong mothering instincts, and ability to thrive on pasture. Today, they’re considered “threatened” by The Livestock Conservancy, making farms like 4th Seed essential to preserving their future.

On pasture year-round, this flock plays an active role in regenerating the land, grazing in rhythm with the seasons while producing nutrient-dense, flavorful meat.

Choosing heritage breeds like Clun Forest isn’t just about taste (though it’s exceptional 😉) — it’s about:
🌱 Supporting genetic diversity in our food system
🐑 Preserving breeds that would otherwise disappear
🚜 Investing in small farms stewarding animals and land with intention

✨ Lamb chops are a quick-cooking, special-occasion cut — perfect for a simple sear, fresh herbs, and a meal that lets the quality speak for itself.

Also available this week: loin, riblets, shanks, steak, stew meat, and shoulder roast — a beautiful opportunity to explore the full range of this incredible animal.
