The Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory’s updated Diagnostic Artifacts webpage is now LIVE! The website was first launch in 2002 and was focused on colonial and precolonial ceramics. It's content has been expanded over the years to include more object categories, such as Small Finds, Equestrian Artifacts, and Projectile Points (aka arrowheads). It's also been modified to make it searchable and compatible with mobile devices.
You can use the site to learn about different periods in Maryland history and pre-history, different archeological sites by county, and to research and identify found objects. Exquisite photo galleries, helpful charts, and beginners' guides to identification, combine to make it an valuable resource for anyone interested in archeological finds from Maryland and elsewhere.
Note to Finders: Many found artifacts can help us learn a lot about past lifeways. But the object itself is of less value than its “context” – that is, where it was found, and what other objects it was associated with. For this reason, if you find and arrowhead or projection point, please report your discovery to archaeologists, such as those at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), or the Maryland Historical Trust
