Seed starting almost daily! So many plants to start still for the fall and so many to start for next year! If you know anything about Lisianthus, it’s one that takes forever to get big enough to plant out. But what a reward! Growing so many different colors and varieties for next year as my trial from last year shows that they do great out in the raised beds!

Happy seed starting and happy Friday! 🌸

Which color block of Zinnias is your favorite? I took a pic of some of my faves yesterday. 😍Such gorgeous colors in the middle of August in south Texas!

Had my dahlia plants on our back porch as they grew from tubers and found not one but 2 sets of lacewing larvae on the leaves as I was planting them out. Love it! Lacewing are such a fierce beneficial insect .. munching on mites, aphids, mealybugs and lots more!

I can’t wait to have flower events out in the field next year! And hopefully inspire and help some of you to have cutting gardens of your own. ❤️

Summer in the Texas gulf coast can be rough. However there are still flowers that can take our heat, they just might not look as pretty in August! I succession planted many of them so they would still be looking pretty good for the summer months. What I didn’t do was time sunflowers well. Lessons learned for next year! Since the sunflowers I use are a one cut and done, they have to be continuously planted every 1 to 2 weeks. And I failed lol 😜. Plus a lot of the ones that I sowed directly in the soil either got eaten by ants or birds or they were very splotchy coming up so moving forward they all need to be sewn in a tray first then put out during the hot summer months. I have had a lot more success that way during the summer. This week is supposed to be pretty dang hot! 🥵 Time to do some in the shade seed sowing. Dreaming of cooler weather!

1st year flower farming in south Texas! I’m usually hot and sweaty and smelling like dirt but I’m enjoying every bit of it. I’m not desk type material and would much rather be outside with the bugs and plants. 🤪Ha! I think my arrangements have gotten a lot better since I first started but I bet next year I will look back and say sheesh. Ha! YouTube for the win. Still figuring out when to start a flower subscription… I don’t want to let anyone down and I want them to be wonderful! Stay tuned! Thank you all for choosing locally grown flowers. I saw a florist on YouTube arranging flowers with gloves on and was wondering why and she commented and said it was because all of the chemicals sprayed on said flowers!! The only thing I have to worry about is trying to relocate spiders and other insects when arranging. 🤪 I’ve had a few jumps when something came flying out on me. Ha! And I apologize if there are a few stowaways. I do try my best to get them off. But I am glad they are there and that it’s not a sterile environment out in my flower beds. ❤️ Thank you all for your support and flower love! Your local flower farmer , Jamie

I think I love filler flowers just as much as the larger focal flowers. 😍They bring movement and airiness! I will be growing a large selection of fillers for 2027… because they add so much life to the flower bouquets and also to test out which ones grow well here in our climate and which ones I absolutely love. Can’t wait! More arrangements made this week and now time to make a batch of back to school minis! 💙😍🌸
