Winston Richard Summers, 80, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on October 5, 2026, at home. A graveside service will be held later. Born on May 19, 1946, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Virginia and Rev. Lewis Summers, Sr. Winston was one of thirteen children; he was preceded in....

❤️ Rest Easy, Mr. Winston ❤️

There are some people in a community you may not personally know very well, but somehow you feel like you know them anyway.

For us, that was Mr. Winston.

For as long as we can remember, Mr. Winston would sit outside his place on Royal Street and wave to everyone passing by. Summer heat, winter cold — there he would be. 👋❤️

Over the years, he simply became a fixture of Front Royal to us.

Robert and I would always look for him when we passed. If we hadn't seen him for a while, one of us would inevitably say, “Have you seen Mr. Winston lately?” We would wonder if he was sick, hope he was okay, and sometimes wish we knew who we could ask about him.

And then, a week or two later, there he would be again.

Waving. Smiling.

And we would wave right back. ❤️

Just a few days ago, I passed him on my way in and waved. He waved back, just like he had so many times over all these years.

Today, we learned that Mr. Winston has passed away.

I didn't know his whole story. I wish I did. But somehow, after all these years of those waves and smiles, it felt like we knew him anyway.

It's funny how something as simple as a wave can become something you look forward to. And how much you notice it when it's missing.

Royal Ave just won't feel quite the same without him sitting there.

Our hearts go out to his family, his friends, and all the people in Front Royal who knew and loved him. I know Robert, and I certainly aren't the only ones who are going to miss seeing that familiar face and getting that wave.

Thank you for all the waves over the years, Mr. Winston. ❤️

You will truly be missed.

🩷 OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 🩷

This one is personal for me.

I am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in my late 20s, at an age when breast cancer certainly wasn't something I expected to become part of my story.

But it did.

So every October, when everything turns pink, it means a little more to me. 🩷 Behind those pink ribbons are real women, real families, scary appointments, treatments, tears, strength, survivors, and sadly, those we have lost.

And that's why I'm going to use my Monday morning to lovingly remind all of you, ladies:

🩷 GET YOUR TA-TAS SMASHED FOR A GOOD CAUSE! 🩷😂

Mammograms aren't exactly anyone's idea of a good time. Trust me, I know. But make the appointment. Keep up with your screenings. Know your body. And if something doesn't seem right, don't put it off.

Early detection matters.

So if you've been saying, “I need to schedule that,” consider this your friendly little shove from a breast cancer survivor who would very much like you to take care of those ta-tas. 🩷

And to every woman currently fighting, every survivor, every family walking beside someone they love, and everyone remembering someone they lost — you are in my heart this October.

Wear the pink. Support the research. Encourage the women you love.

And ladies... GO GET 'EM SMASHED. 😂🩷🎀

🍎✏️ HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS' DAY! ✏️🍎

Today we want to take a moment to celebrate some pretty incredible people — our TEACHERS! ❤️

Teachers do so much more than teach lessons from a book. They encourage, inspire, listen, guide, cheer our kids on, wipe tears, celebrate victories, and sometimes see potential in a child before that child can even see it in themselves. 🥹❤️

Most of us can probably still name at least one teacher who made a difference in our lives — no matter how many years have passed.

So today, THANK YOU to every teacher who shows up day after day and pours a little piece of themselves into the next generation. 🍎📚✏️ You are appreciated more than you probably ever hear.
