Did you know that fermented foods can help inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in your digestive tract?

When we eat fermented foods, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, and yogurt, we introduce beneficial bacteria into our gut that help improve our digestion and overall health. These beneficial bacteria, known as probiotics, can help balance the microbial community in our gut, reducing the risk of inflammation, infection, and other digestive issues.

One way that probiotics help inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria is by producing lactic acid, which creates an acidic environment that is unfavorable to harmful bacteria. In addition, probiotics can help strengthen the intestinal barrier, reducing the risk of pathogens crossing into the bloodstream and causing infections.

By incorporating fermented foods into your diet, you are helping to support a healthy gut microbiome and improve your digestive health. Here are some easy ways to add fermented foods to your diet:

💡 Take a shot of the brine from naturally fermented foods before meals
💡 Top your salads with a scoop of sauerkraut or kimchi
💡 Mix kefir or yogurt into your smoothies
💡 Use fermented onions on your sandwiches and on pizza
💡 Snack on naturally fermented pickles or dill carrots
💡 Drink 4 oz of beet kvass before going to bed

When choosing fermented foods, look for options that are unpasteurized and contain live cultures. All of our fermented products contain live probiotics and enzymes, so be sure to stock up on our delicious fermented foods to help support your gut health!

Zinc is an important mineral, and a deficiency can be devastating!

Here are some signs that you might be deficient in zinc:

😢 Weak Immune System: Zinc deficiency makes it hard to fight off infections. You might get sick often or have a hard time recovering from illnesses.

😢 Poor Appetite: Zinc helps regulate appetite and taste sensation. Low zinc leads to food aversions, loss of appetite, or even causes food to taste weird.

😢 Acid Reflux: Zinc is essential for the production of stomach acid, which is necessary for digestion. Low zinc = reduced stomach acid production = acid reflux + other digestive problems.

😢 Food Intolerances: A deficiency in zinc can lead to a reduced ability to digest and absorb nutrients, causing food intolerances and other digestive issues.

😢 Poor Gut Health: Zinc helps maintain the health of the gut lining and supports the growth of beneficial bacteria. A lack of zinc can lead to gut inflammation, leaky gut syndrome, etc.

😢 Eczema: Zinc is involved in the synthesis of collagen, which is important for maintaining healthy skin. Low zinc leads to skin problems such as eczema, rashes, and acne.

😢 Hair Loss: Zinc is important for healthy hair growth and retention!

You can see that getting enough zinc is super important for our health! But where can we find it in our diets? Here are some of the highest sources:

✨ Oysters are one of the richest sources of zinc, with 74 mg per 3 oz serving.

✨ Beef is another good source of zinc, with 7 mg per 3 oz serving. Grass-fed beef is also a great source of saturated fat, high in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, which help zinc do its job.

✨ Tofu is a vegetarian source of zinc, with 1.4 mg per 1/2 cup serving.

✨ Lentils are also a good vegetarian source of zinc, with 1.3 mg per 1/2 cup serving.

✨ Eggs are a good source of zinc, with 1.2 mg per large egg.

✨ Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc, with 2.5 mg per 1 oz serving.

We need an average of 10mg of zinc per day, but some individuals have higher requirements or might need supplementation.

Sometimes we overcomplicate things when things can be simple!

Taking care of your body is one of those things! Eating well, getting movement daily, prioritizing rest, and finding ways to reduce stress are very important.

These simple things really help improve overall health and well-being, and support gut health, too:

🍂 Spend time in nature often. DAILY if you can! Getting fresh air and sunshine increases your vitamin D, supports hormonal health, helps with natural detoxification and improves mental health.

🍂 Garden and eat what you grow! Getting in touch with the Earth, literally, helps develop your immune system. Who knew playing in dirt could be so healthy? And eating what you grow is a must. Fresher foods contain more nutrients, and taste better than store-bought, too!

🍂 Have a spoonful of raw honey before bed. Not only is honey sweet and yummy, it also contains prebiotics that support the growth of beneficial bacteria! End your day on a high note!

🍂 Take care of your adrenals. Eat well, take adaptogens when necessary, and get the sleep your body needs and deserves! Your body does an amazing job, every single day. Allow your body to rest and rejuvenate, too!

Did you know that fermented foods have all of these benefits?

Fermented foods play an important role in our lives.

They contain live probiotics and enzymes that aid digestion and support gut health. This means less unwanted digestive symptoms such as bloating, acid reflux, gassiness, nausea, etc.

They help support our mental health, improve focus, and boost energy levels thanks to the beneficial bacteria that produce an abundance of B vitamins, including B12.

Give your immune system a boost naturally by getting your ferments in daily!

Earth Day is here, and we're proud to say that sustainability is at the forefront of our business practices. We recognize that our actions have a profound impact on the environment, and we take our responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint seriously.

🌎

One way we promote sustainability is by reusing boxes and packing materials whenever possible. This not only reduces waste but also saves resources and helps us keep costs down, which is a win-win for everyone.

We also prioritize recycling boxes and other materials that we can't reuse, ensuring that they're properly disposed of and don't end up in landfills.

We use glass instead of plastic whenever possible. We ferment in glass and use glass packaging for all of our fermented foods and drinks. Glass is a more sustainable alternative because it can be used over and over and over again without losing quality. It's also recyclable and non-toxic. Yay!

🌱

We're also passionate about reducing food waste. We use some of our veggie scraps to make broth. We donate or sell majority of it to local farmers, who use them to supplement their animal's diets and make compost, promoting sustainable and regerative farming practices.

Lastly, we support organic, sustainable and regenerative farmers. We vote with our dollars, and pay more for organic and sustainably-grown produce. We buy local as often as possible. We form friendships and partnerships with multiple farmers. 💜

🌎

Overall, we take sustainability seriously and believe that every little bit helps. As we celebrate Earth Day, we encourage everyone to think about the impact they have on the environment and take steps to reduce their own carbon footprint. Let's work together to protect our planet for generations to come!
