This is how a Beekeeper cleans up a honey extractor. A tray of hot, fresh buttered bicuits is key!

What an incredible Ranch Discovery Day! We were excited to welcome approximately 507 guests today, along with 25+ amazing partners, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers who helped make this event such a success. What a blast!

Stay tuned for our next event at the OC Fairgrounds!

We sampled locally produced honey straight from our real working bee hives, and had an amazing time helping others learn about bees, pollination, and the importance of supporting local beekeeping. One of the highlights of the day was our observation hive, where kids and adults alike got the chance to spot the queen bee up close!
A huge thank you to Hapa Honey Farm and OC Beekeeping Supplies for helping make this event so special. We truly appreciate everyone who came out to support local bees and beekeeping!

"Just wanted to give a huge shout-out to OC Beekeeping. I have been a hobby keeper for about 9 years. I have bought both package bees and nuc's in the past. I picked up a nuc from OC Beekeeping on Saturday the 2nd of May 2026. Began mite treating, feeding immediately and added OC's pollen patty. This nuc was packed when I got it. It had outstanding brood pattern and plenty of food sources. Within one week I had to add another brood box. They had completely drawn out all additional frames in the first box. This is the best performing nuc I have ever purchased. A big thank you to OC Beekeeping."

Nobody Builds a nuc like we do
STOP comparing nucs to packages. They are NOT the same.
A package? NOT THIS
3 lbs of bees… dumped in a box… with a queen they barely know… and no brood. You're basically hitting “start from scratch” and hoping for the best.
A nuc? What your looking at.
Completely different animal.
You’re getting:
• A laying, accepted queen
• 5 frames of drawn comb (huge head start)
• 6+ lbs of bees
• CAPPED BROOD (incoming workforce)
• Eggs, larvae, foragers already working
That colony isn’t “starting”… it’s already rolling.
Give it about a month and that nuc can explode into 10 frames of bees. Meanwhile, packages are still trying to figure out who’s in charge.
So yeah—don’t compare them.
One is a gamble.
The other is a running start.
