We have built our core business on honesty and integrity, which is why over 85% of our bulls are sold to repeat customers. Sonderup Charolais Ranch has been breeding Charolais cattle for over forty-five years when Mark
and his father, Vern bought their first cows. The operation has evolved over time as Mark married Kathy and their family grew. Their children, Melinda, and the triplets, Ryan, Stephanie, and Heather, all participated in raising and actively showing Charolais cattle across the country. After graduating from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Ryan returned to the farming and ranching operation to work with his parents. Ryan’s wife, Beth and children, Lora and Luke, are also major contributers to the operation. Today, Sonderup Charolais Ranch has a farming operation and a Charolais herd of 200 cows. We try to replace 15% of our herd every year in order to maintain our genetics and youth of our herd. We want to produce cattle that are functionable across their lifespan. We raise solid mothers that produce calves with moderate birth weights, heavy weaning weights and good dispositions. Calves sired by our genetics also have strong feed efficiency performance and will grade out for the packer. In fact, one of our herdsires was recognized by Pfizer Animal Genetics for being in the top 1% in the world for DNA markers for marbling, tenderness and feed efficiency. Bottom line, our cattle have to work in your herd! We utilize a wealth of historical performance records, twenty-nine years of ultrasound data, ten years of historical DNA testing, and the experience we have gained by being in business for over 45 years to accomplish this.
