Shh! Can you keep a secret from Emily?

This Bloomquist Georgia C dahlia and she would go nuts if she knew Georgia was putting on a show out here on the farm.

Bloomquist Georgia C is a 6in blooming dahlia with lacinated petals. She's yellow with bright red and orange highlights, so 2 of Emily's favorite colors together.

Emily loves this dahlia so much, she made me do a photoshoot with her at the Farmer's Market last weekend. 😅

Sunflower Down! 🌬💨🌻😢
The storms that gave us 5 inches of rain a week or two ago also brought winds that toppled many of our 12 ft sunflowers that the birds planted in my studio gardens.
Most of the stalks I've left to continue to bloom near the ground, but this one fell on top of a row of flowers. The stalk on this plant is massive and a simple stake wasn't going to cut it. Some creative problem solving did the trick. 😆

Did you know that dahlias can have families?

Remember the Cornel Bronze dahlia from the other day? Well another member of the cornel family is Isabel.
Isabel is one of our favorites partly because it shares a name with our Isabelle. Isabel is considered a "sport" and therefore is part of the the cornel family. I know of 5 members of that family; Cornel, Cornel Bronze, Isabel, Ivanetti, and Caitlin's Joy. They all came from the original Cornel Dahlia which is a red ball shaped dahlia. When a dahlia has a genetic mutation happen from an original plant, it can cause some of the flowers to look completely different. We call that a "sport" in the dahlia world. Isabel got her start because of a mutation that occurred. Regardless she is an absolutely beautiful lavender 💜 dahlia that also can shift colors over the season to more of a dusty rose color.

Emily and I have been studying this dahlia to try and figure out her name. After carefully looking through all our 2024 dahlias, we finally figured it out.

This is September Morn!!

Isn't she gorgeous! She is currently hanging out with Foxy Lady on our farm, but her formal decorative blooms are larger! September's colors are beautiful mix of raspberry, yellow, and peach. Her colors change throughout the season. When its warmer out, you see more yellows, but the cooler temps and overcast skies brought more of her bright raspberry tones.
