*** Riley's Roman Candle was a sweet boy who lived up to his name. While he was here with us, he burned bright and you didn't want to take your eyes off of him. Unfortunately his colon never developed and he had to leave us for greener pastures. He will be missed, I had such high hopes for him and Riley keeps looking for her boy.***

Well she missed the 4th by a couple of hours but Riley finally decided to have her baby

The circle of energy should flow from;

1๏ธโƒฃ the active hind legs,
2๏ธโƒฃ over a swinging back,
3๏ธโƒฃ arriving in the mouth,
4๏ธโƒฃ traveling along the reins to the riderโ€™s hands, where it may be modified to create movements, transitions, half-halts etc,
5๏ธโƒฃ through the riderโ€™s supple body and adhesive seat to the riderโ€™s driving aids (legs),
6๏ธโƒฃ into the activity of the hind legs.

And so on, round and round.

USDF is saddened to learn of the passing of Carol Lavell on March 27 at the age of 79. Carol achieved high marks in all phases of dressage โ€“ an Olympian, rider, competitor, trainer, teacher, judge โ€“ and with her legendary horse, Gifted, brought pride and honor to our country through her performance on the 1992 US Olympic Team.

Gifted was inducted into the Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame in 1997, the first horse to ever be inducted. Among her other notable mounts is Much Ado, who Carol took from Training Level to Grand Prix, winning a team gold in in the 2003 Pan American Games.
Carol was a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist and a member of the New England Dressage Association NEDA and the NCDCTA (NC Dressage and Combined Training Assoc)

Carol loved to give back to the dressage community and her legacy lives on through a number of grants with The Dressage Foundation including the Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize and the Gifted Memorial Fund Grant.

You can read more about Carol and Gifted in this American Dressage Legends column, reprinted from USDF Connection magazine: https://yourdressage.org/2019/04/04/american-dressage-legends-gifted/

USDF sends our condolences to all who knew and admired Carol.

Still have that poster in the barn

I went to groom for Carol Lavell when I was 22. I had done Young Riders, I had done the U25 Championships, and I thought I was quite the fancy thing. She offered me cash, which I took, of course, but I also asked for two lessons a week to be included...

The story of the American Quarter Horse begins long before the settling of the West. The origins of the breed can be traced to Colonial America. When our forefathers werenโ€™t dumping tea in the Boston Harbor and fighting Indians or Redcoats, they did enjoy a horse race. In the beginning, they ran the English horses with which they plowed and rode every day.

Cracker Jack is coming along nicely and so sweet. It's time to start looking for a new home for him. He did his first trail ride the other day and was great. He's still learning to go down the hills but he's starting to figure it out. He's going to be 3๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ• if anyone is looking for sweet trail riding gaited horse. He's around 9 years old and has been great with everything we've exposed him to. PM if anyone is interested. More videos in comments.
