Hanz's duty as livestock guardian ended last Sunday, 2/8. He was going on 13 years. In October of last year, we discovered he had a mass growing on his right shoulder, which the vet suspected was cancer. It was aggressive and it had gotten to the point where it was a chore to get up to eat/drink and go to the bathroom, so we knew it was time.

We'll remember him for his friendly demeanor, good manners and dedication to his job of protecting his goat herd.

I got a message today asking if we were associated with some other page or business on Facebook that was requesting to put a deposit down and using our address. I can say with certainty that we are not associated with any other pages or businesses! We do use OpenHerd to keep track of our herd, but that is all. Protect yourselves and watch out for scams, it can be dangerous out there!

Ok now to lighten the mood and show you what we've been up to recently, here are Curdis and Wheylon, my two "for fun" goats that I'm letting grow out horns and taking on walks in the woods 😁

This is Fiore, one of my oldest goats now. With age comes tooth loss, so now she squeaks when she chews her cud 🤭💚

We said goodbye to Emerald C Ranch Onyx Thunder +B yesterday. He was a handsome, resilient and sweet buck who gave us many beautiful daughters, most notably SGCH Emerald C Ranch Earth Star 3*M. He was 13 years old and had been dealing with poor teeth and joints for some time. He was telling us it was time. He will be missed. 💚

It was time again for a full barn cleanout! Everyone looks pretty pleased with the job. 😁💚

I had the opportunity to bring back a doe that I bred. I very rarely do that, but this girl is from a trusted herd and she is special to me! She's even still in milk, so I'll get some fresh goat milk, which I really wasn't sure when I'd have again! So, welcome back Emerald C Ranch LMB Indigo (in the pictures, she is the one in the back)!! 🎉💚

Today we said goodbye to Rosemary, a dedicated 17-year-old barn cat who was keeping the barn free of rodents up until about a month ago. She had a long, very fulfilled life. In fact, we like to joke about how the vet told us barn cats only live 4-5 years... well not Rosemary! She even wins the award for longest lived animal we've ever owned to date. She was loved and we will miss her SO much!!

I haven't posted in quite some time and I've had a few questions come up, so I thought it was time for an update! We are still here, we still have our herd and are doing well. 👋💚
🐐 We are focusing on infrastructure improvements this year. We are pushing hard to get the second barn complete. We are also working to put up perimeter and pasture fencing, as well as taking down old, unused structures.
🐐 All available kids have, or will soon be, headed to their new home. We haven't planned any kidding this year, so we may not have any available anytime soon. I'll keep you posted if/when that changes.
🐐 Lastly, just as general information to answer questions I've received. 💚We only have purebred Nigerian Dwarf goats, no Boer, no Pygmies, no mixed breeds. 💚No sorry, we dont have open hours or allow visits outside viewing or picking up available animals. 💚No sorry, we don't sell any milk. We aren't licensed to do so, although there are several farms in DFW that are licensed, for at least pet feed/crafting milk sales. You can find them on the Texas Feed & Fertilizer website list of Active Feed Licensees. For human consumption, see the Texas Health & Human Services list of Registered Raw for Retail Dairy Farms.

Emerald C Ranch BAM Elva was just weaned and is ready! Her dam is Emerald C Ranch CO Rime and sire is Legacy Ranch Bamboozled. She is very sweet and easy to train. She is definitely show worthy, although I can't say how well she'd do. I did enjoy milking her dam, who gave about 1.5 lbs per milking.

See her full details on Open Herd, along with her wethered brother "Bobo", "Bran" (kid wether), as well as two yearling junior does!
