Adventures in chicken keeping…
Soooo, this is Mystery.
She’s not my chicken.
She appeared this morning outside my coops. And she’s very friendly.
There isn’t anyone else with chickens nearby to me, and she looks to be about 4 weeks old.
I’ve been a beneficiary of the cat distribution system before, but I didn’t know there was a chicken distribution system too!
🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I love getting photos back from friends and customers when their pullets start laying, and Kiana from Chopped Oak Farms did me one better and actually brought me my grandchicks first eggs!!
Y’all check out these gorgeous babies!!
Back-crossed rustic olives, Cream Legbar deeply saturated blues, and beautiful Black Copper Marans!
What a stunning layout of first eggs!!!
🤩🤩🤩
This is my WHY right here!! 🥰
I’m so tickled to see the fruits of my last few years of labor, AND have the joy of helping a wonderful friend develop her own lines with a solid foundation!

I also have hatching eggs available.

First road trip this weekend for Pixie!
She’s a 1 week old Snowy Call Duck.
I love singletons because they give me time to bond with them before they join a brooder group!
She had two siblings hatch today, but she’ll still travel with me as much as she wants to! 😆

The Painted Hen teamed up with Chopped Oak Farms today at the Family Farm Day in Homer, GA, and we all had a great time!!

Chickens, face painting, boiled peanuts, agricultural classroom experiences, worm farming and composting, remote-controlled tractor races, farm fresh produce; what a day!!
We brought some Candy Corn Polish, Seramas, and freshly hatched babies to snuggle. Chopped Oak brought Silkies, Silverrudd Blue, and one of my grandchicks; a mint egger!
Everyone did great and are all worn out!

Thank you to Banks County Farm Bureau, and Banks County Public Library! Looking forward to the next time! 🐓🐥

⭐️Sold⭐️

I have a 1 year old beautiful Olive Egger rooster that I’m willing to part with.
I bred Olaf specifically to have lighter plumage to pass on to his children, since OE tend to become so black feathered based from crossing to BCM’s.
Olaf’s father was BCM X Cream Legbar, and his mother was a Lemon Cuckoo Neiderrheiner.

He is people safe and children safe, and takes amazing care of his ladies. 🥰
He is other-roo tolerant with more dominant roos and has happily lived with a Cream Legbar roo for a year, but my breeding program needs him to change flocks to be with a less dominant roo, and he has not been accepting of the shift in direction which is the only reason I don’t have a spot for him anymore.

Let me know if you’re looking for a cool OE boy with unique genetics to take care of your ladies! I want him to go to a good happy home! ❤️

I have the sweetest story… 🥰
I’m in the middle of building an extension onto my home for my mom, and one of the sweet builders was expecting his first child. His young wife was at 41 weeks, and was frustrated and scared that things would not go well.
On a Friday I brought him out some fresh eggs, and let him know that they were “blessed with chicken labor voodoo” and would help her go into labor. 😆
He didn’t show up for work the next Monday… About a week later I received this amazingly sweet thank you note from the happy new mom.
It says that the very next day, she had a wonderful breakfast with her yummy eggs, and then promptly went into labor two hours later, and they now have a healthy baby boy!

I love SO much that my eggs played a tiny part in helping this mom navigate a difficult spot while waiting for natural labor.
Please let me know if YOU need any “chicken voodoo eggs” to help you go into labor! 😂🥰🥰
