It’s a beautiful day for working in the Bee Barn! Prepping frames & foundations for the honey supers.
Also, highly recommend Coral Honeysuckle! Ours held blooms all winter, even through the cold snaps, and was an incredible early-spring resource for the bees and hummingbirds. I’m attempting to propagate clipping of it now if any Jax friends would like some. 🐝 🌻💐

I mention “swarm bait” in this clip which contains lemongrass oil - it mimics the Nasonov pheromone bees use to call the swarm. We can see the scouts zooming around. Their job is to find a new home for this colony. Hopefully they pick the home we’ve offered them! 🐝 🏠
Update: this is our own colony of bees. Discovered that fire ants quickly overran their hive. (They were the weakest colony going into the winter, and it appears they weren’t strong enough to fight off the fire ants.) Hopefully they will move into this fresh, and free home we have offered. 🚫🐜

Homestead hustle update 🐝 - we’ve added a Bee Barn! It provides room to organize beekeeping equipment and a proper honey processing space. We’re growing, one hive at a time!
