Say hello to “Cricket” our Ameraucana Roo. He is currently FREE TO A GOOD HOME, but NOT a soup pot!

Cricket usually keeps to himself and his personal flock of chickens and guineas. He is definitely not a lap chicken, but will come when called and eat scratch from your hand after he warms up a bit. He doesn’t roam and I have not heard him crow yet. He is a girlfriend stealer though….and that’s why he needs a new address. He set eyes on Cello the Buff Orpington who is our Blue Maran Roo’s main girlfriend and well, that isn’t working out so nicely for all parties involved. We are currently in a lovers quarrel and no one is happy.

If you have a loving and secure spot on your farm for Cricket, he is available. Videos of Cricket in comments.

No matter where you were in the world a few days ago, I’m almost certain you heard me scream when I casually walked into the stall and found this “friend” hanging out in the water bucket. 😳 Our livestock guardian dog, River was not happy about it and I had front row seats for this show down as I hid like a big chicken behind the closed stall doors. Raccoon was run off by River, likely never to venture in her territory again.

🥚 FAIRY EGGS: One of our chicken ladies laid a fairy egg today and I figured I would share it with you!

These tiny eggs are somewhat of a “manufacturing defect as the egg comes down the assembly line.” It is produced when the egg white begins forming before the yolk is released during ovulation. This can happen for a few reasons….a young hen, an older hen, a stressed hen, a calcium deficiency, or just randomly. I recently swapped brands of organic feed, so this is my indicator that the ladies preferred the previous feed with a bit more calcium. Looks like we are now switching back to previous feed. 🤷‍♀️

Pictured: a turkey egg (big white freckled egg) a brown Jersey Giant chicken egg, a green Olive Egger egg, and then the fairy egg.
