Poor Ways Farm

Poor Ways Farm ~> The Farm With Charm We've lived this what-started-out-as 25 1/2 acre farm since 1992. Never did much with it. Have added acreage to put us up to 42 acres.

Alan drove a truck over-the-road for over 31 years. Started with 1 cow (have built the herd up to an average of 10 - 15 head, selling off a few each year). Have always produced our own hay, but we've decided that it's time to get serious about becoming more self-sufficient and putting our land to use growing good quality, healthier-for-you food at affordable prices. We are embarking on a new journ

ey (life has always been an adventure here with the Sisney Crew) that we hope will not only benefit our own family, but your family, too. If you are looking for fancy barns, the newest farm equipment, and pretty fences, you won't find them here at Poor Ways Farm. Alan named the place because, well, to be honest, seems like we have always done things the hard way. You'll find lots of duct tape and baling twine here. PermaTex is another favorite "fix-it". Although it may not ever be a "showcase" farm, Poor Ways Farm does have some of the prettiest scenery and the biggest heart for nature. By not putting all our money in the "best" new equipment and gadgets that come along, we think we can open for business next year with high quality products at great prices. You won't be buying any of our buildings to feed your family. We think you'd rather have us concentrating on raising some of the best grass-fed, no-hormone, no-chemical, pastured animals you'll find at prices you won't mind paying. We also think that while technology is wonderful (especially when it is working correctly), some things are better done in a simpler manner. Beginning in 2022, we plan to offer pastured cattle, hogs, chickens, and rabbits. All raised using a rotational grazing management system that is not only better for the animals, but also better for our land, which will in turn provide us with a better pasture for the animals the next year, which will provide better nutrients for our animals, which - well, you get the picture. We hope down the line to offer an even larger variety of animals. We will hope to be offering farm fresh eggs from our portable pastured Egg Mobile. These eggs will be gathered fresh daily from our hens who will be enjoying a hand-mixed feed ration that will be supplemented by all the little bugs and earthworms our fields will provide as the Egg Mobile moves each day to a new patch of greens for the chickens eating contentment. We dream about the day we can open up an on-farm general store that will offer baked goods, crafts, and other farm-related merchandise. We have plans for some special events, too, as we get the business up and growing, but we don't want to reveal all our surprises at once! This Poor Ways Farm Facebook account will give us a way to keep you all up to date on our progress (and yes, we'll even share the "doesn't work" attempts that we are sure to run into) and let you know when we will be taking orders for our animals. We will be selling live animals, that the buyer will contract us to board and care for until butchering time, and then Alan will gladly provide you the service of transporting your live animal to the processing plant for you. Those buying an animal (or, in the case of a cow or hog, you may want to go in with others for a share of the animal), are welcome to stop by the farm anytime to check on your animal. We hope to start taking orders for chickens, rabbits, and the available cattle by next March. If there's enough interest, we may even raise a few turkeys for the Thanksgiving season. We hope to have our egg production up and ready by May (it takes a while for the chicks to get big enough to start laying, you know!). Sorry, but we do not sell chicks or rabbits for pets. We'd love to hear from you! Leave us a comment, a suggestion, and let us know if you'll be one of those folks out there who are looking for better animals for eating than what the grocery stores are offering.
