As I sit on Josh's tailgate, pretending to be useful in this project, it's had me reflect on how we got here.
It seems like most people start this homestead journey once they have children, when they realize how fragile our food supply chain actually is, or when medical issues arise. We had all of these reasons for wanting to make something happen, but we were limited on what we could do with the 1/3 acre we lived on. We did what we could on that space, and sourced what we couldn't grow/raise from local farms. It worked, but we longed for the opportunity to expand and give our kids the experience that teaches them responsibility and an appreciation for the work it takes to get food on our table.
After a decade of dreaming, we took the plunge and moved to our property in Virginia. The past 2 years of building our mini farm has challenged and grown our family in the best of ways. It's been such a blessing to see our kids take ownership and pride in all of these projects.
What we didn't anticipate was the community that would wrap around us. We can't begin to tell you how much it means to us when we have neighbors drop in to check on what new things are happening on the farm. Those of you that have offered a hand. Those of you that have helped corral baby goats when we weren't around. And those of you who keep asking "when are you going to start selling [fill in the blank]?"
We're super excited to announce that our farmstand will be up in operation in the very near future.
We will have honey, baked goods, Huxley's 3-D prints, Cricket's goat soap, a dairy herdshare and of course eggs!
Let us know what other items you would like to see, and keep an eye out for an official opening date.
Thank you for all the support along the way!
