I received a call today from a woman who wanted to know if we had beef bullion cubes. I responded that we didn't and was told that she would not be coming back because this was the 3rd time she's been looking for something and we didn't have it. I told her I was sorry and she hung up on me. For those who have been to the market and understand what we do and do not carry, thank you for your patronage. For those who have not been to our market, let me explain what we are and are not so you won't be disappointed when you come. We are not Walmart, Food City or Grants. In other words, we are not a Supermarket. We are a Meat Market with an onsite butcher that will custom cut your steaks to your desired thickness, special order anything you desire, and we carry items you will not find in the other three supermarkets (i.e.. hog jowl, fat back, pork belly, scrapple, cow tongue, beef feet...). We also have better meat prices than the other three (I compare weekly). We are a limited Produce Market with in season fruits and vegetables, all competitively priced. We carry the basics, but we do not have everything Food City does. We have a small smattering of groceries so you could make tacos, spaghetti, lasagna, noodles... We have limited canned vegetables and baked beans, canned fruits and a small Asian section. Our dairy offerings are limited, but competitively priced. Food City ran a special on heavy cream and our regular price was cheaper than their sale price. We carry Duchess Milk because it is a small locally owned and run business with milk from Jersey cows. They are not the cheapest, but I know the owner and I chose to carry them for their quality and to support local. We carry Ashe County Cheese for the same reason. We offer local eggs from two local suppliers and commercial eggs as well. We have a convenience section with beer, chips, and soft drinks. We carry local wines, a full line of Dutch Kettle Products because they are local. Locally made real sugar old fashioned soft drinks in glass bottles. We do our best to provide the highest quality food for dine in our take out whether it be BBQ or Asian Cuisine and you can have a beer or local wine with your meal. Our Bakery uses non-bromated, non-bleached, non-enriched flour and all our food is made that we offer is homemade. We do not order bags or cans from restaurant suppliers and pour them out and heat them up. We are not perfect and we are not for everyone. But for those who want to support a local business rather than the Walmart's of the world, we offer that alternative. We often hear that we are "all the way across town", and one of our slogans is, "It's worth the drive". If you figure the time involved in walking around Walmart, compared to the easy in, easy out that you experience here, and the friendly helpful staff, I think you will agree it is worth the drive. So please come and support a local business that gives back to the community. We need your support and I am asking for your support. If you are one of our regulars, tell your friends and encourage them to give us a try. If you haven't tried us, please give us a shot. As the owner, I try to know all my customers and I am proud of what we have built and I want to get to know you. Sincerely, Dave Bremmer
