The montessori philosophy of toy rotation has always been a key to our home, but how-to store the excess toys has always been challenging. I’ve done lots of research on the best ways to store and organize extra toys and books, but couldn’t find a clear picture.

Here’s my approach with the available closet space and without spending a fortune on storage supplies. Now that we have two kids, I want the bottom shelf to be available for the baby’s toys too.

A work in progress for the playroom/office! Stay tuned!

Everything I did during my 5-week old baby’s nap from 11am-2pm (a strangely long one!):

-Thursday’s weekly cleaning task = mop floors ✅
-made my daily drink w/ collagen, psyllium husk and creatine
-washed my manual breastfeeding pump
-prepped dinner…chicken thighs with steamed carrots and peas
-took veggie scraps to the chickens, gave them dried worms (extra protein is good for them this time of year) and collected only 1 egg 😑 found I left the faucet on yesterday and flooded the pasture
-picked oranges, permissions, Cara Cara oranges and lemons
-took out the recycling and compost for trash night
-went “shopping” in our freezers for the next meals: beef tongue, salmon, bread and beef liver for the dog
-made lunch and watched my show
-started a playroom/toy/montessori organization project
-then my body told me I need to slow down and rest!

Last weekend we moved the Cornish Cross into the mobile bottomless chicken coop/tractor, even though the outside temp is still a bit too low for them. We just HAD to get them out of our garage. We compromised by hanging their heat lamps for now, making chores a little tougher but definitely worth it. Poor things have already encountered some serious rain and wind storms! They get excited when they’re on fresh grass and hopefully the sun will shine again soon! Already 4 weeks old. Half way there! 😝

This is our first time raising chickens so early in the year, knowing we were risking the weather. But look at all the yummy grass!! I love how much we learn every time.

Can you see the egg layer’s mobile coop in the background?

Brooders are all setup for the chicks to arrive sometime this week! Our garage looks absolutely crazy! My workout area has been taken over by feed and I barely have a path to our second fridge and deep freezer 😆🤪 you gotta do what you gotta do!

In the past we converted an old shed to a brooder, but it’s in bad shape. With busy mornings trying to get out the door for work/daycare, using galvanized water troughs in the garage was the easiest and cleanest setup. We’ll see how it goes!

Roasted one-pot chicken with carrots, radishes and cauliflower soaking in duck fat (from the ones we raised), bone broth and chicken drippings 🤤. So easy!

Loving Big Bluff Ranch no corn-soy organic pasture raised chickens while we’re still too busy to raise our own.

Days like today make me so happy! Playing outside with my baby, picking persimmons, collecting sticks for the burn pile, chasing bubbles, meal prepping, mugs of bone broth using our own and a relaxing fire in the evening 👧🏼🐓🪵🔥🍎☕️🍴🌧️🏈

5 dinner plates for our toddler. She eats exactly what we eat and usually the same thing for lunch the next day. We do our best to focus on protein and fibers first to ensure we (but mostly her to prevent meltdowns) have stable blood sugar balance. Her first year, I always gave her carbs or fruit last to make sure she would eat some protein first. Now I know she’s a good eater (for now) and will eat everything. But of course, we are busy parents and aren’t perfect! I also make sure she has at least one probiotic food each day.
