As with any sport at this level, we work hard. We prepare to the best of our ability, and when the gate opens, we leave it all on the arena floor.

Today, Valentino did absolutely everything I asked of him—he poured every ounce of heart and try into our run, but still there are things out of our control and his score today is simply a reflection of that—an obstacle out of our control.

In reining, a horse’s sliders are vital to their ability to perform to their full potential, and today Valentino lost not one, but BOTH of his sliders during our run. The first just after our turns and the second during our second to last stop.

Through it all, he TRIED—he did everything I asked and gave it his all—and that is all I will ever ask of any of my horses.

So thank you, Valentino, for being a teammate I can count on—even when the stars don’t align, you’re still in my corner. ❤️
