Well our young hens have surpassed the older generation! Most of their eggs are still on the small side, but they're growing in size each day! Our young hens are white egg layers this year, and their eggs are just as delicious & nutritious as the brown egg! Eating the same diet of organic feed, spent grains, and pasture bugs. They'll just be adding some variety of color in our cartons over the next couple of years! Interested in some small eggs for pickling? Hit us up, we've got a good supply coming everyday! 🥚😋

Sometimes ranch life takes us to unexpected places! And, what happens in Vegas... Comes home as a new market van! 🚐
Just a quick trip to pick up our new farmers market vehicle, and after a few hundred miles on the road, we made it home. We've now got lots of room to haul all your favorite products to market and for deliveries. We've got some outfitting to do to it, so stay tuned as it starts changing appearances. A great engine (6.6) and more room, it's hopefully a keeper for a long time!

BROILER (meat) chicks have arrived and are doing well! But, It was a rough start... First batch of chicks that arrived got chilled somewhere in their shipment and not many survived, so we had to order a second batch the next week. That shipment did amazing and there wasn't even one dead in the boxes! Another week+ in the brooder to wean them off supplemental heat and then into the pasture tractors.

Hello from the French Ranch!

The weather has been beautiful lately — warm sunshine, green hills, and long ranch days — although things are definitely on the dry side already. Marty has officially started cutting hay, which always feels like one of those true signs that summer is right around the corner.

Over the last month, we wrapped up a spring and water trough project to help make sure our cows are set with reliable water as temperatures start warming up. These kinds of projects may not always be glamorous, but they make a huge difference for the health of both our animals and our land.

Another exciting update... our pork went to the processor! We’ll be picking up our new pork inventory at the end of the month, so we are getting very close to officially launching our pork products. We are SO excited about this addition to the farm! Think bacon (sugar free & nitrate free), sausage, ribs, pork chops and more! Stay tuned for announcements when everything becomes available.

We also just completed our Prop 12 inspection to ensure our laying hens have the legally required amount of space. Our wonderful local veterinarian who conducted the inspection said exactly what I’ve been saying all along:
“If I was a chicken, I’d want to live here!”

That one made us smile.

To kick off farmers market season in Garberville and Shelter Cove, we’re running a special on our beef sausage links and beef organ meats — BOGO 1/2 OFF! If you’ve been wanting to stock the freezer or try something new, now is a great time. These are available online or in-person.

I also spent some time refreshing our website for spring and finally launched something that’s been on my mind for a long time — a brand new “Recipes” page/tab! Some recipes are family favorites, some are my own creations, and others are links to tried-and-true online recipes we love for things like perfect filet mignon, prime rib, or a cozy slow-cooked Osso Buco (YUM!). The recipe I’m probably most proud of is the “Non-Liver Lover’s Pâté.”

We’re excited for all the summer adventures ahead and thankful, as always, for your support of our ranch and family.

Hope to see at the market!

Spring is chugging along, and everything is waking up fast around here!

With the wonderful weather, we’ve jumped headfirst into spring projects. One task has been tackling the invasive broom brush that always seems determined to take over. It spreads quickly and can crowd out everything else if left unchecked. We’ve spent many hours pulling and clearing it, and the difference is incredible—The best time for pulling is when the ground is nice and wet, which makes pulling it, root and all, possible.

Another exciting project has been connecting our solar well to water tanks for improved water storage. This will help us better manage water for the livestock, especially as we head into the drier months ahead. It’s a big step toward making the ranch more efficient, resilient and fire safe.

All this spring growth also means we’re busy keeping things running smoothly across the ranch. As much as we love this time of year, it does come with rising costs behind the scenes—from fuel and processing to the time and labor it takes to keep producing the quality beef you rely on.

With that in mind, we want to give you a heads-up: BEEF PRICES WILL BE INCREASING MAY 1. We’ve held our prices steady for the past two years, but unfortunately, it’s time to make an adjustment.

We wanted to make sure you had advance notice so you can stock up at current prices before the increase takes effect. If you’ve been thinking about filling your freezer, now is a great time to do it! If you have any questions on cuts, pricing, etc., we're happy to answer any questions. Also a reminder for any local customers, you can use the coupon code- LOCALPICKUP to save $20 for a beef bundle order or 12+ items when you want to order and pick up at one of our pop-up locations.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our ranch. We truly appreciate being part of your table and your meals.

Happy spring!
Marty & Maurie

We’ve got pigs! We mentioned a couple of months ago we had a surprise, well here it is... PORK, COMING SOON!
We've had many people ask over the years if we would ever offer pork, and we’re excited to say that the answer is finally yes — coming soon! The pigs are settling in nicely, and we expect to have pork available in a few months. With this first batch of pigs, which we didn't purchase as weanlings (just weaned from their mother), but as larger 100+ lbs. pigs, they have been eating a high quality feed, but it wasn't certified organic. Now that they have arrived on the ranch we have switched them to a high quality 18% protein organic feed, which will help them finish out with a great meat/fat ratio.  If you're curious on the ingredient list of the feed, just let us know, we're happy to email you a copy of sheet from the feed mill (Hunt & Behrens). We’ll keep you posted as the pigs grow out and once we know more on processing dates! [email protected] frenchranchfarms.com
