Spring is chugging along, and everything is waking up fast around here!

With the wonderful weather, we’ve jumped headfirst into spring projects. One task has been tackling the invasive broom brush that always seems determined to take over. It spreads quickly and can crowd out everything else if left unchecked. We’ve spent many hours pulling and clearing it, and the difference is incredible—The best time for pulling is when the ground is nice and wet, which makes pulling it, root and all, possible.

Another exciting project has been connecting our solar well to water tanks for improved water storage. This will help us better manage water for the livestock, especially as we head into the drier months ahead. It’s a big step toward making the ranch more efficient, resilient and fire safe.

All this spring growth also means we’re busy keeping things running smoothly across the ranch. As much as we love this time of year, it does come with rising costs behind the scenes—from fuel and processing to the time and labor it takes to keep producing the quality beef you rely on.

With that in mind, we want to give you a heads-up: BEEF PRICES WILL BE INCREASING MAY 1. We’ve held our prices steady for the past two years, but unfortunately, it’s time to make an adjustment.

We wanted to make sure you had advance notice so you can stock up at current prices before the increase takes effect. If you’ve been thinking about filling your freezer, now is a great time to do it! If you have any questions on cuts, pricing, etc., we're happy to answer any questions. Also a reminder for any local customers, you can use the coupon code- LOCALPICKUP to save $20 for a beef bundle order or 12+ items when you want to order and pick up at one of our pop-up locations.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our ranch. We truly appreciate being part of your table and your meals.

Happy spring!
Marty & Maurie

We’ve got pigs! We mentioned a couple of months ago we had a surprise, well here it is... PORK, COMING SOON!
We've had many people ask over the years if we would ever offer pork, and we’re excited to say that the answer is finally yes — coming soon! The pigs are settling in nicely, and we expect to have pork available in a few months. With this first batch of pigs, which we didn't purchase as weanlings (just weaned from their mother), but as larger 100+ lbs. pigs, they have been eating a high quality feed, but it wasn't certified organic. Now that they have arrived on the ranch we have switched them to a high quality 18% protein organic feed, which will help them finish out with a great meat/fat ratio.  If you're curious on the ingredient list of the feed, just let us know, we're happy to email you a copy of sheet from the feed mill (Hunt & Behrens). We’ll keep you posted as the pigs grow out and once we know more on processing dates! [email protected] frenchranchfarms.com

Meet our newest LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) Dahlia! She's so cute and has a lot of growing to do, but she'll eventually be a great help with Buckeye to protect our small flock of sheep! She is an Anatolian Pyrenees mix with both parents protecting large sheep flocks so she'll be right in her element!

Is it spring yet? Leaves are starting to pop, even a few flowers are spreading some cheer, and the baby animals are starting to appear! It's really starting to feel like spring is in the air! I know it's still February, but we love the glimpses of spring, as it's my favorite time of year!

Lambs are arriving, and so have the chicks! This year's chicks are different... they will be white hens, and also lay white eggs. What?! Yes, white pastured eggs, no difference in flavor or nuturients, just a different color shell! Photos below...

As February comes to a close and March approaches we're still getting a reminder that it's technically still winter. Like the white stuff that fell from the sky the last couple of days. Luckily where we are, we don't typically get much, just enough to look pretty for a bit, and maybe curb an early morning trip to town. Photos below, and the animals really don't mind it!

January was busy with travel, and February had us arriving home, and then heading south to take the lambs to the processor, which means this year's lamb processing is "in process"! So, stay tuned for the notification of a lamb restock soon!

We continue to ship out orders on Mondays to the West Coast (CA, OR, NV, WA, ID), with packages (5-18 lbs.) typically arriving at your door on Wednesday ready to go in your freezer. Ready to pick out some of your favorite winter cuts, or grab a broiler before they're gone?

January Update! Trying to take it easy this month!
Where has this month gone? This is typically one of our quieter month, and I guess in many ways it has been. In January we try to move a little slower, and take some time to do some projecting and plannig for this year. We did take a little vacation for New Years and checked off a bucket list item for us, The Rose Parade and Bowl. Wow, what an event, I watched the parade every year on TV as a child, so this was my chance to see it live. Unfortunately, we brought some NorCal rain with us, and it literally rained on my parade! We survived and were all mostly dry by the end of the Rose Bowl. I do think I've checked the box and don't plan to repeat the experience, but it was an adventure for sure!

Along with a bit of vacation we also headed to Petuluma to restock on chicken/chick feed and to prepare for a NEW VENTURE! Stay tuned for updates, we're super excited, and I think you will be too!

All the CHICKS have been ordered for the year, and that means Layer chick will arrive on the 11th of Feb., Broiler chicks will arrive in early June, and Turkey chicks (poults) will arrive early August! One little snag for our layers this year, the hatchery didn't have any brown egg layers available for our dates, so we'll be mixing in white eggs this year. We'll be discussing what that means as we get closer to them actually laying, basically they will look white, but taste the same as the brown ones!

We hope your year has started off well for you, and you're gaining ground on any new years resolutions or goals! If you or anyone you know is trying to eat healthier, place an order, or share our info.,we'd love to help you achieve your goal!

Hope you're staying warm and dry!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Wow, what a month it's already been!

December has been quite busy here on the farm/ranch, and we are feeling very grateful as the year comes to a close. The Farm to Ferment dinner at Gyppo in Shelter Cove was truly grand and so much fun — thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a special evening. We've heard that it might happen again!

Official winter arrived with a bang, bringing the highest water levels I can remember seeing in my lifetime! It has been a powerful reminder of how closely connected we are to the land and the seasons. We and the animals are all safe, and nothing too disastrous occured beyond a couple of summer decks getting pushed down stream a bit, and some clogged culverts.

We hope the rest of this month brings you time to slow down, rest, and enjoy meaningful moments with family and friends. We want to sincerely thank you for supporting our farm/ranch throughout the year — it truly means more than we can say!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & a Happy New Year! All the best for a great 2026 ahead!

Warmly,
French Ranch Farms

Well this is what 8.36" of rain in 24 hours looks like! Along with some clogged culverts and overflowing ditches. All the animals are good and so are we, but our camp area just below the mouth of Bear Creek got hit pretty hard. I think this is the highest I've seen the Mattole river and Bear creek at the mouth!
