A little nostalgia for your Spring Saturday ❣️
If you’ve never made a dandelion flower crown before, this is one of those simple little garden things that’s easier than it looks 🌼
The biggest trick is using fresh-picked flowers with long stems. Once they start to wilt, the stems snap a lot easier.
What you need:
Fresh dandelions with long stems
A few extra flowers for filling gaps
A little patience the first time
Steps:
1. Pick a good handful of dandelions with stems as long as you can get.
2. Start with 2 flowers and cross the stems.
3. Add a third flower beside them, then wrap one stem around the others to hold it in place.
4. Keep adding one flower at a time.
5. Each time, lay the new flower next to the last one and weave the stem around the little bundle.
6. Keep the flower heads sitting close together so the crown looks full.
7. Bend gently as you go. Fresh stems are flexible, but they can still tear if you pull too hard.
8. Once it’s long enough to fit around your head, connect the ends by tucking and weaving the last stems into the first loops.
9. Add a few extra flowers anywhere it looks thin.
I’ve found this works best when the flowers are picked and woven right away, especially on a cool morning or later in the day. If the stems feel soft and juicy, they usually hold together much better than the older ones.
It’s a fun way to use those yard dandelions before they go to seed, and kids usually love helping with this one too 🙂
