The name WheelyQue comes from my love of BBQ and living life in a wheelchair. I was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and learned early on that life is what you make of it. I have always been a huge fan of everything barbecue. I love eating it, preparing it and sharing it with family and friends. In early 2012, I started a quest to learn the craft of barbecue and the proper way of smoking meat. Wi
th the help of my wife, Kyla, we built a DIY Terra Cotta pot smoker and I quickly learned how to smoke pork shoulder, ribs and brisket. Combining cooking times, with different woods, charcoal and spices to acheive unique flavor profiles and the most tender meat piqued my interest more than anything. bottle_yellow_glow2
For my 40th birthday, my beautiful wife surprised me with a “Big Green Egg (BGE)”, which is a professional style ceramic charcoal smoker known as a “Kamodo”. Soon after getting my BGE, I began working on a recipe for homemade barbeque sauce. The store bought stuff just didn’t have the right flavors to go along with the spices and woods I was using. In April 2013, due to health reasons associated with being in a wheelchair for so many years, I was forced to quit my day job and go on disability to make ends meet. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to take advantage of all my extra time and focus on turning my barbecue sauce making into a business. WheelyQue was born and together, Kyla and I started bottling my original recipe barbecue sauce in our kitchen. As of the beginning of 2014, we’ve made WheelyQue an official business under the name WheelyQue Foods. We partnered with a food manufacture that has assisted us in bringing our product to market. They have helped us develop a formula using high-quality, all natural ingredients so we can produce our sauce with the same flavor and standards that we were making at home. On August 21st, 2014 we manufactured our first 80-gallon batch of Original Recipe Barbecue Sauce. It was an amazing feeling to finally get to the point of production and we were both thrilled to hold the first bottle that came off the line. Thanks to our family, friends and loyal customers we sold our entire first batch (over 500 bottles and 40 – 1/2 gallons) in less that a year. In May of 2015, we doubled our production amount of Original Recipe Barbecue Sauce AND also debuted our Spicy Chipotle Barbecue Sauce! As an added bonus, every bottle of sauce your purchase, we donated a portion of our profits to research into finding a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. In 2014, we were able to donate $100 to The Ohio State University (via the Miracle for Madison fund) where the leading researchers in the world are working hard to find a cure for this horrible disease. Please contact me if you have any questions or feedback regarding any of our products. Enjoy,
