Our sister Sarah, daughter #4, recently discovered St. Germain as her favorite liqueur. She also discovered that today is the feast day of St. Germain, and that he is the patron saint of wayward children. Sarah her husband Michael are the parents of eight adopted children. Suddenly her newfound obsession makes sense. If you haven’t sampled this elderflower liqueur, swing by Phil’s to try it out.

To make a French Martini, to a shaker, add:
* ice
* 1.5 oz Grey Goose vodka
* 1.5 oz Chambord black raspberry liqueur
* 3 oz pineapple juice

Shake for 30 seconds. Strain and enjoy this pink frothy goodness!

Wine Wednesday Tasting: The Other Red

The name of this wine has always stumped me, especially with the image on the label. I mean, I learned about “the other” in my literature classes, but that particular definition didn’t jibe with the image of the woman on this label. Is she “the other woman”? It wasn’t until I read the back label that I realized this red blend is made up of:

This - 60% Cabernet Sauvignon,
That - 30% Merlot, and
The Other - 10% Syrah

Okay. Now I know where “The Other” gets its name, but I still don’t understand how it connects to the woman on the label. Oh well.

This wine has notes of sweet dried cherries, cranberry, and raspberries, with a hint of light toast. Take my word for it, or try it yourself on Wine Wednesday.

Tuesday Tasting: Jameson Orange

The folks at Jameson have branched out and things have gotten a little zesty. They’ve added natural orange flavor to their original triple-distilled Jameson Irish Whiskey for Jameson Orange.

It has a delicate, smooth and full mouthfeel with distinctive orange zest notes and spicy, nutty, sweet vanilla undertones. The folks at Jameson recommend that you try it over ice or with lemon-lime soda and an orange wedge for a crisp and refreshing drink.

We’ve been asked if we can get Jameson Orange in the little 50 ml shooters. They currently do not offer it in that size, so our Tuesday tasting is a great way to try before you buy.

January is such an odd month of athletic contradictions. Exercise, but not outside because it’s too cold. Basketball is here, but so is football. We’ve decided to simply not care about contradictions. We’re drinking Slam Dunk even as we anticipate AFC Championships. In fact, we’re tasting it on the Wine Wednesday at Phil’s. These tasting notes from the winery’s website made us smile: “Full of bramble, violets, and blackberry pie, the mouthfeel is packed with sweet black cherry, and dark chocolate.” Bramble, violets, and blackberry pie.
