Finally getting around to posting IL State Fair results after a long week. Gary, Vicky and Brianna tackled the open Oxford Show at the state fair for the first time in a few years! Austin decided to be MIA show day since he decided he needed to be in another state... Pictures are limited, but we did get a few of our Champion Ram and class winning Ewe Lamb. Gary is officially retired now and he’s got the itch to attend another show besides NAILE.

With IL state fair about 2 months out, it was time to patch out all the potential show sheep. Productive weekend spent in Northern IL getting some wool off and trying to get the stock a little more human friendly. The rams were a whole lot more cooperative then the ewes.

With a plethora of ram lambs this spring, we had quite a few to sort through. These 3 each had some intriguing pieces that we thought we needed to hang on to for little while longer.

It’s no secret Gary loves collecting rams and it’s a common occurence using 3-4 rams a year to breed our 17 ewes. As many know, things don’t always go as planned and it’s always a good thing to have a backup option or 2 when breeding season comes around.

If things go as planned, at least 2 of these guys will make it in the show flock at IL state fair and NAILE. One just might headline our National Oxford sale consignment next spring… Needless to say, we think highly of each of them.

If you’re passing through the Northern IL area, stop in and check them out yourself. Give Gary a call, he loves talking sheep, unless it’s during his early morning breakfast at the local cafe.

“The Franchise” and “New Deal” have made their way to Northern IL!!

Back in January and February a couple ram pictures caught our attention. Not long after, we made a trip south to check these 2 out in person. A few phone calls back and forth with the expert in Northern IL coming to the same conclusion. We can utilize both!

We are excited to partner with the Niemeier Boys on both of these rams. Thank you to Steve Niemeier and family for allowing us to purchase 1/2 interest in both rams!

The rams have made their way to North to relax, under fans, for the next few months before breeding season starts.

National Oxford sale consignments. 3 January Ewe lambs. All RR NN.

The weather in Northern IL always throws a few curveballs this time of year, little snow/sleet today was not expected. 70 degrees on wash day, 35-40 degrees on picture day but we made the best of it. As many of you know, getting lambs ready that are at best, half trained, is not an easy feat. Not professional pictures by any means, but we try our best.

We weren’t blessed with many ewe lambs this year and the majority of them came in January. That being said, we had to let a couple of them go that we would rather retain to improve our flock down the road. Decisions had to be made and we landed on consigning these 3 to the National Oxford Sale.

We think highly of these 3 and their capabilities down the road otherwise they would not be going to a sale.

Reach out to Gary or Austin with questions.

See you in Greenfield.

Finally made a trip north to get some of the lambs sheared out. We have 3 of these ewe lambs entered at the National Oxford Sale in Greenfield, IN which is just 4 weeks away. Decisions haven’t been officially made on which ones we are consigning but snapped a few pictures of the ones we plan to bring! Updated pictures of our entries and info will be posted closer to sale time.

Pictured a few Ram Lambs as well that we have available off the farm.

We encourage people to make the trip to Garden Prairie and see the sheep in person. Gary is available most of the time as he does not venture very far from home.

Any questions, reach out to Austin or Gary.
