Hello all you Mother Pluckers! I needed to take a moment and do a little PSA… this is why I ask that food be taken away from your birds 12-24 hours before they arrive at my shop….it is literally the first thing on the client instructions, which I send to anyone who books an appointment. This is partially digested grain that oozes out of the crop… no matter how careful I am, if they have food in their crop it WILL get on your meat and all over my hands and work surfaces! I have to stop and rinse this stuff off EVERY SINGLE TIME. In a USDA facility this is considered adulterated product and has to be thrown away!!!! Please STOP FEEDING 12-24 hours before arrival, your birds WILL NOT STARVE!!!!! Starting now 6/27/2023, I will be charging an additional .50 cents per bird that I have to deal with this. It can add anywhere from 5-10 minutes processing time to each bird to ensure they’re clean and your meat is safe. This stipulation will be added to the client instructions, so hopefully after 2 full processing seasons, clients will read and follow instructions. I get it, life gets busy, but I can’t micromanage your life for you, and what I’m asking for is not difficult, simply remove the food. I also understand that hungry birds will eat anything…. From p**p, to feathers to shavings… I can tell the difference between actual food and what they’re just picking up. Birds with actual grain in their crops will be up charged. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
