“Honeyboy,” I can still hear my Gramma’s voice shout in the melodic way she would call Grandpa from the deck. “make sure you shake the ants out before you bring them in!”
He would reply, “Ok, Belov-ed”, or “yes, Honeygirl”
Peony season is my favorite for the memories it brings. I probably heard my grandmother say that at least 100 times… And I’m so glad that I did because I could still hear her voice this morning, like she was still here, saying the words as I shook the first peonies before I brought them in to my mom, who is now the gramma of the farm.
When they bought the farm in 1991, Grandpa planted these for Gramma to enjoy, and I’ve started to keep a calendar of when each different love letter from Grandpa to Gramma blooms. I’ve also added some bushes to the row. Today is peony day and I think it might be the sweetest one. In keeping with tradition, the first blooms always go to the gramma of the house, but more bouquets will be ready at the end of this week. DM to get yours. We’ll be in Mechanicsburg, Carlisle and New Cumberland for meet up/delivery!💐
