Really sad day today on the farm.
Unfortunately, with the sudden heat wave, we lost 6 of the 8 newborn kits. These kinds of deaths are never easy and always comes with lots of guilt. You always can't help but wonder, what could I have done differently? The hard truth is learning from your mistakes. This doe was still a new mom and things happen. We are absolutely heartbroken after coming home to these poor things. What's worse is that we had checked them around noon and all seemed healthy and okay. But between then and now, we had Unfortunately lost them.

As for the survivors, one is lively and is looking fantastic. The other we feel may not make it despite our best efforts. The little one is hardly moving but is still breathing. We have done everything we can to help save this babies, its now up to them to pull through.

We will take all the good vibes for these two.

The Riverton show was so much fun! Between the amazing people who showed up to the fantastic judges and staff that truly helped it all come together. It was truly a wonderful show to be at.

It was a lot of fun being able to get comments and many wonderful opinions about my animals. It was gratifying to hear good things about my animals and also hear about the things I can improve on. There is always room for improvement.

I was happy to head home with 3 Best of Breed ribbons and 3 Best of Breed Oposite ribbons. My rabbit named Jalepeno won the 3 BOB awards. He is the sire to Jane's newest kits. He has good type and good fur. I think he will truly help my lines become even better.

I have another rabbit that hasn't been named yet. She is the daughter of Joey and Joaline and a full sibling to Jane. This girl is showing a lot of promise for only being 12 weeks. I'm excited to see how much more she develops in the coming weeks.

Well! We have fantastic news! Jane has decided to share her babies with the world this morning! I found them about an hour or two after birth. They were all nestled in a big ball of fluff. All 8 of them are healthy, round and big babies! She didn't have a single DOA. I'm so proud of her and I'll continue to monitor frequently to ensure their survival! But for now, we celebrate!!!

This sweet girl, Jane, is do on Monday but she already looks like she is over being pregnant! She has started to build a lovely nest for her babies. We will be watching Jane closely as this is her first litter. They may be a chance that something could go wrong. Her mother had a few rough first kindlings so im expect something similar from her.

I know this isn't my usual rabbit posts. However, I wanted to take some time to really give kudos to some of the kindest people I know. Melinda and Mike own Duncanz Farm LLC. Its an adorable little restaurant out in Garland, UT. This place has quickly become one of my absolute favorite places to eat. I've always been a rather picky eater and lots of restaurants lack the level of care and love that all restaurants should have. Mike and Melinda at Duncanz have blown me away. I find myself finishing my plate every time. And this is a rare occurrence as I eat like a bird and just pick at my food. But here, im scarfing it down like I haven't eaten in days. The portion sizes are amazing and overall, really underpriced for how amazing their food it. The people there are fantastic and amazing and im just in love with the atmosphere and the food. So if you even find yourself in garland, Duncanz Farm LLC is a must go to.

I have some super exciting news! My young doe names Jane has been bred! 30 days and we should have some really nice show quality buns if things go well! However, she is a virgin doe and this will be her first litter. There is a very good chance there will be still borns or very small litter.

Now this doe is very special to me. She came from Joey and Joaline, my first two rabbits. She was the only one of her litter to do well. She has gone on to win 6 BOB ribbons. I expect her to continue to do well in the next showing season.

I’m so excited to have you here, and even more excited to share my passion with you. So sit back, grab a good snack, and get ready for a silly little introduction.

My name is Marcella, and I’m the owner and creator of New Moon Rabbitry. I run this passion-turned-business with my husband of two years. I’ve always loved animals and dreamed of having my own little homestead—completely self-sufficient, sustainable, and full of life. I had nearly everything figured out, from gardening to canning, but the last piece was finding a reliable meat source for my family. After a lot of deep research and conversations with experienced rabbit keepers, I finally landed on these little fluffballs.

I’ve been raising rabbits since March 2025, starting with my first two, Joey and Joaline—both purebred American Chinchillas. And wow, did the rabbit bug bite hard. What began as a simple “breed them for meat and nothing more” quickly spiraled into an obsession with showing and producing the best animals I possibly could.

Now I have four American Chinchillas that I breed for both meat and show. I’ve completely fallen in love with the duality of this breed—from their fantastic meat-to-bone ratio to their rarity on the show table. They’ve inspired me to focus solely on rare and heritage breeds, and I’m committed to keeping my lines healthy, high-quality, and in line with ARBA standards.
