Our family focuses on healthy and happy soils, plants, and animals who will continue to bring us efficient production and delicious beef for many years to come. We enjoy building soils for our own and other farms through cover crops. Let us know if you'd like some flavorful and nutritious beef or cover crops to "grow" your soil, we will be more than happy to oblige!

Turning out the lawn mowers. We look forward to this part of our calendar every year. There’s just something about black cattle on a shade of green!

Then Jacob said, “Look, it is still broad daylight. It’s not time for the animals to be gathered. Water the flock, then go out and let them graze.”

Genesis 29:7

A morning fill with Italian Ryegrass and Oats getting inter-seeded into an existing stand of some acres of rye and acres of alfalfa. All will be grazed later. “Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of Love.” Hosea 10:12

While we remain firm believers in practicing no-till, there’s a fit for minimal tillage when needed. This was a sunflower field last year with a heavy rate of brassicas at their feet. All of the brassica species were exceptionally high in nitrates last fall(we believe from the amount of rain we received in late July, early August) that we had to forfeit the grazing pass. The high speed disc is running at around 1.5” sizing the tough sunflower stem and the leftover brassica(mainly radish) carcasses. Nitrate tests will tell us how much nitrogen we need for the corn crop to follow. But first, these acres will see oats, field peas, and a couple other species to be seeded tomorrow.

Very proud of our good friends and customers who steward conservation in Clayton County!

We have been so fortunate to work with Paul and Andrea on continuing their conservation journey from supporting their cover crops to integrating a small grain into their rotation and all of the conversations (sometimes during euchre or midnight field moves) in between! Congratulations Paul and Andrea on receiving the well deserved Clayton County SWCD new cooperator award!

We are also so fortunate to work with Travis and Tammy not only on their conservation journey but everything from farming and livestock to kayaking and roadtrips and everything in between! Congratulations to Travis and Tammy on receiving the well deserved Clayton County SWCD woodland award!

Here’s how our experiment from July is currently g(r)o(w)ing. We will cut the sunflowers in the next 10 days and will turn out a group of cows on the brassica mix underneath.
