This is about as easy as a pulling gets.
Billy and Jake found 346 off by herself this morning, a good sign that she would calve today. They checked her again this afternoon and she still hadn’t calved. Brogan and I went and checked cows together tonight, and she had her water bag out. Billy went back down about 45 minutes later, and she had one leg out.
Jake and Billy went back down around 30 minutes later to check her again and still only one leg. Jake called and told me she likely had a leg back and to bring a fourwheeler and the pulling supplies. I got down there and we got her in the catch pens and, as suspected, she did have a leg back. Jake got it up no problem, and the calf basically slid right out.
This is why we HAVE to be around during calving season, and why we check our cows multiple times a day. If we wouldn’t have caught this tonight, we would have lost the calf. If we wouldn’t have checked for a couple of days, we possibly could have lost them both.
