Originally known as King Arthur, he began his career in the south of England. He was the only horse Dennis purchased from a picture, and was purchased from the same man he bought The Gypsy King. Dennis named him Latcho Drom after purchasing him. Dennis said he had such a commanding presence, when he came out of a paddock or when he showed he would puff himself up, and move forcefully into your heart, with his mane flying, and a body built like a tank. He could be intimidating in his approach, he made it known he was a stallion, and he was not all huff and puff, the proof was in his progeny. He has contributed some of the best genetics this breed has known so far in the US. He passed yesterday at an approximate age of 26. He lived a glorious and storied life, and was cherished beyoned words. He has been slowely slipping away, and yesterday he did not go alone. A Legend.....

Cushti bok and Latcho Drom are the words I often include when someone asks for my autograph.
Good Luck and Safe Journey are the words meanings in the language of the Romany Gypsies.

This morning those words represent the end of an era.

Early this morning GV00001 Cushti Bok, the first Gypsies Vanner Horse left this earth.

In 1995, I wrote, "As he crossed the field with mane and feathers flying there was magic in the air", and indeed there was.

"He is a one off, look all you want, you won't find any better." said the Gypsy who owned him then.

"He was born right over there, I will never forget the day he was born, I held in in my arms and I knew he was special, he's the best c**t I ever raised," said the Gypsy who raised him.

The magic that Cushti Bok brought to his Vanner breed will live in the annals of equine history and his personality in the hearts of all who knew him.
