Extremely Exciting News!!

We will be hosting a raw milk production training event here at our farm June 17 and 18. Event put on with Get all your questions answered about producing safe, high quality raw milk. We will also be gathering to rally and support raw milk in Oregon in light of the recent initiative on the part of Oregon Department of Agriculture to require all raw milk producers to become permitted as factory farms.

If you have one cow or ten or even want to be a farmer one day, or you consume raw milk and want to know how it is done, this event is for you! It is a very affordable $35 to cover the cost of flying in the best to educate us all. I did a training like this 10 years ago and it changed the way I grow food for you all. Please help me spread the word!

Happy Tuesday to all of our Yacht Club listeners! Today we have released Episode 12: Farmers Gonna Farm where we talk with two local farmers, Marvin Bernards and Erik Grimstad, about how they came into farming and what they love best about their jobs. And a WHOLE lot more! I think we started discussing international farming practices at one point and needed a map for reference. There was no way we could have summed this complex industry up in one episode, but we did our best asking a ton of questions and talking about the importance of having such great access to locally grown food. Settle in, this is our longest episode yet!

It’s butchering day on the farm.

We are sad to see the animals we’ve shared space with the last year leave us, but also grateful for their contributions AND for the rest their departure will allow the land over the dark months, all the better to feed next year’s babies!

We have 5 lambs and 1 goat available for sale. They can be purchased as a whole or half animal for $7/lb hanging weight, and will be ready for pickup in two weeks at The Meating Place in North Plains. There is an additional $100/animal in fees ($50/half) due to the butcher at pickup.

The lambs are roughly 50lb hanging weight, resulting in about 35lb of meat wrapped in your freezer.

Let us know by message if you’re interested!

As gardeners, we are stewards of the land and the soil, but for most of us, we garden upon stolen land. Today is Indigenous People’s Day and we invite you to honor Native Americans and the tribal affiliation of the land you garden upon. The map shown here is of the many tribes in the Oregon region. https://native-land.ca/ can help you learn the tribal affiliation of your garden. Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, is located within the traditional homelands of the Mary’s River or Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
