Homesteads for Hope

Homesteads for Hope Homesteads for Hope was founded in 2013 by a Mother and Daughter team raising a young adult with autism.

Homesteads for Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community farm nestled on 55 acres along the historic Erie Canal in Rochester, NY, where people of all abilities find purpose, belonging, and growth through hands-on experiences in nature. Today, we are the first intentional agricultural style community. Our stakeholders continue to seek and work towards a sustainable approach to learning, working, livi

ng and growing in Western NY. This unique community farm encompasses 55 acres on the beautiful wide water inlet of the Erie Canal. This space offers something for everyone and we encourage all to take part in the evolution. The Farm strives at cultivating effortless inclusion, while fostering independence, promoting individualized skills training, socialization, self-awareness and career exploration on our organically practiced farm. For the future, we continue to craft collaborative partnerships to create the full vision of a sustainable and inclusive agritourism venue. With gracious community support, we are developing enterprises on the farm, including our 2019 Farm Store, a 2020 CSA Food Share and is currently fundraising for a Café & Bakery on the Farm. Some places you volunteer.

Some places you belong.

At Homesteads for Hope, we try to be both.

We’re a community farm where people with and without disabilities work together across the farm, learn from the land, and build something bigger than any one of us could do alone.

From planting and harvesting to riding out to the fields together and sharing the work (and the laughs), every day is a chance to connect.

If you’ve been looking for meaningful time outdoors - and meaningful people to share it with - you might have just found your place.

Today on the farm during our Garden Club, we started bundling together freshly harvested honeysuckle, mint, and red raspberry leaf to hang and dry for some herbal tea blends. 🌿

After harvesting, we learned how to gently gather the ingredients into small bundles, and tie by hand with string. Students took their bundles home, and were instructed to hang them in a cool, dry space. Over the next couple weeks, the moisture slowly leaves the plants while the flavor and aroma become more concentrated. Once dried, the mixture can be crushed and used as a loose leaf tea.

Grown in rich organic soil and carefully harvested by hand, this comforting herbal blend brings together cooling mint, delicate honeysuckle blossoms, and nourishing red raspberry leaf for a tea that feels both refreshing and grounding.

Naturally caffeine-free with soft floral notes and a gentle garden sweetness, this blend can be enjoyed hot for a cozy evening or served over ice for a refreshing summer tea.

We are excited to provide classes like this all season long - we hope to see you down on the farm!

Here are a few of the photos from yesterdays Memorial Day Member Luncheon. We spent the morning weeding flower beds and sprucing up some more around the farm, then buckled down to some delicious grilled goodness and various salads. Sorry to anyone we missed - thank you all for coming out and spending the day with us, we look forward to all the fun this season.

Lots of smiles, lots of connection, lots of community. ❤️🤍💙

Today we pause to remember those who are no longer with us, and to appreciate the quiet freedoms and ordinary moments we often take for granted.
