I will advocate for trades in this day and age. I have "manifold" degrees (3xMS/MA, 1xBA) that placed me on a specific trajectory for my life, a set of strategic moves that started as early as 1992 AND involved me committing 30 years in uniform. To maximize and optimize all that personal trajectory...I would have had to work inside the beltway in D.C.
BUT...the strategic environment has changed. The BA/BS used to be the 'universal key' to get any job...I walked out of my BA with a Regular Army commission AND the potential to go into a plethora of law enforcement professions (if 'Plan A' failed). Now that everyone has a BA/BS and the relative number of 'white collar' jobs have not proportionately increased, a young person needs something tangible and physical that is not a) replaceable by AI, b) able to be determined 'non-essential' in some CV19, and c) not tied to a specific region of Team America.
A man who can stack dimes in any metal is employable at any time in any location...it doesn't matter if there are red ties or blue ties in D.C. Such a man doesn't need to work in a headquarters or an office building full of DEI and HR and face diapers; such a man doesn't have to compromise his personal values for continuing employment, advancement, or tenure; such a man can put down roots nearly anywhere because his trade is in demand everywhere.
