Gavilan Hills Vineyard Backyard Vineyard Project, growing our own grapes and drinking your own wine, follow the Adventure. Follow Us on Youtube & Instagram, Thanxs

We have started a Backyard Vineyard here at Paradise Ranch in Southern California. This is our journey, all the hurdles, triumphs, and disappointments in starting your own vineyard, growing your own grapes & drinking your own wine. We hope it will be a resource for vineyard growers and winemakers with special attention given to the beginner and novice. Our Channel will show everything from Plannin

g and Prep, Irrigation Installation, Building a trellis, Planting the Vines, to pruning, canopy management, harvesting and bottling. We will provide a lot of “how to” videos, however they are more like trial-and-error videos with many information videos as we do our research and create our Backyard Vineyard; We will try to post a new video every month or so during the project. We expect this project to last at least 5 years or more… We hope you subscribe and enjoy the Channel. Please leave comments positive and negative we love to hear from you. We expect to do a lot of wine tasting and winery tours as well, so stay tuned. Join the discussion on our YouTube Channel “Gavilan Hills Vineyard”

We harvested our Cabernet Sauvignon this past weekend. We picked almost 350 lbs. Giving us about 30 gallons of "Must". We crushed and destemmed and placed in a fermenation bucket. It will cold soak for a few days before we start the fermentation.
Brix were about 23. With PH at around 3.4.

Grenache harvest in a few weeks.

A few years ago, right here in our own backyard, Cindy and I embarked on a delightful adventure: cultivating a burgeoning vineyard. We started small, with just a few hundred vines, but by next year, our flourishing rows will be home to nearly 400 vines!
Last year, we celebrated a momentous occasion – crafting our very first, albeit delightful, batch of wine. This year, the harvest promises to be even more fruitful, literally and figuratively, resulting in a larger batch of our blossoming creation.

We were incredibly humbled and honored to be featured in the Orange County Wine Society's monthly newsletter (Check the Link above) – a true validation of our little vineyard's potential. One unexpected perk of our passion project has been the opportunity to host weddings in our charming, intimate setting. If you know anyone searching for a unique and affordable vineyard wedding venue, please send them our way!

These weddings, along with other events we've hosted, have brought Cindy and I immense enjoyment, and we can't wait to create many more memories in the years to come. Speaking of exciting developments, we've also been having some preliminary discussions and planning for the upcoming Elsinore High School 50th Class Reunions – how thrilling (Damn 50 years!!)

Sure, some folks might have chuckled and called us crazy at the outset, but this endeavor is a true labor of love. It requires immense patience, a virtue we have honed over the years of waiting. From the initial planting of the vines, which takes a patient 3-4 years to yield their bounty, to the additional 1-2 years for the wine to mature, this project thrives on delayed gratification. But the reward? The exquisite taste of a dream realized savored sip by glorious sip. It's the culmination of years of dedication, transforming a vision into a reality, one delicious drop at a time.
