Welp that’s a first! Meet Pickle the Monarch 💚 Our daughter found a chrysalis on a cucumber she had picked 😆 it took a little improvisation to get it set up safely. It appears to be darkening so hopefully it emerges soon and the cucumber holds up!

Recipe Below! 🍋

Our wild raspberries were prolific this year- this lemon raspberry custard ice cream was one of our favorite recipes we made!! So creamy and delicious.

2 cups cream (we use farm fresh- so rich and thick)
1 cup whole milk
1 cup cane sugar
6 egg yolks (7 if they are smaller)
Generous swoop of vanilla bean paste
Sprinkle of salt (I love Redmond’s- American sea salt)
Zest of two lemons
A cup or two of raspberries

Heat the cream, milk, sugar, and salt over medium heat. Whisk egg yolks in medium bowl. Pour a bit of the cream mixture into the yolk bowl and stir to temper. Add that to the cream pot (turn heat off) and mix. Add in your vanilla bean paste and the lemon zest. Chill the mixture for at least a few hours, then pour into your ice cream maker (I love the KitchenAid bowl one) and allow to churn until thick. Add raspberries at the very end and transfer to a container. For soft serve texture, eat right away. For a more traditional ice cream texture, let harden in freezer. Top with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh berries. Enjoy! ♥️

I’ve been stalking my monarch caterpillars to try to catch the pupation process on camera- it’s just so cool! This part of the process took less than ten minutes. It will stay in chrysalis for 8-14 days and then a beautiful butterfly will emerge.

Surprise chicks! 🥹 One of our sweet hens, Indigo, went rogue and decided she was going to be a mama. Where she sat on the eggs I still don’t know but she was super sneaky about it. The other morning we were so surprised to find her boppin’ around with three tiny chicks in tow. They have been named Brownie, Sunny, and Blue and are just the cutest 🐣
