Birthdays. Anniversaries. A return to the dock where it all started — where we met, where we crashed, and where we came back to say “I do.”

It’s been a ride.
The highs, the lows, the lake days and late nights. This week, we raise a glass (or a bottle) to all of it. To time, to love, to grit, and to not taking one second for granted.

Cheers to what was, what is, and whatever comes next. 🥃

📸 “8 Bottles. One Legacy.”

They say bourbon tells a story in every sip. But when it’s River Roots, each bottle screams craftsmanship, character, and pure Kentucky soul.

From the bold complexity of The Guardian, to the rare finesse of Founder’s Reserve CLE, this lineup isn’t just a shelf flex—it’s a tribute to a brand rewriting the playbook on what bourbon should be.

🔥 Each pour hits different. Each label, a chapter.
📦 Limited picks. No hype—just heat.

River Roots fam: If you see this, just know… we’re riding with you all the way. Let’s make this movement louder.

I’ve neglected my sample bin for far too long. During the move, over a year ago, I must have jammed a few older mini bottles into those crates too. Luckily yesterday was the perfect day to pull them out and dig for treasure.

Oban is one of the earlier single malts I recall being a fan of. This 12yr unblended malt was from the 1970s and a stark departure from what today’s spirit is like. The nose is bursting of fresh pear and honey- what I would normally associate with a Speyside, like Balvenie. The palate was full malty and to***co notes, followed by apricot notes towards the end. The finish though is long…super long, and bright fruit notes for days. This was a really fun whisky to try.

I’ve found that these minis and older expressions sometimes get overlooked. Do yourself a favor and grab them and try them- a little history in a little bottle!

Dreaming of a trip to the islands? We are too, the Isle of Arran! Located off the west coast of Scotland, the 7th largest of the Scottish islands is home to two distilleries: Lochranza (aka: Arran) and Lagg. That’s our kind of island vacation!

Here we have a unique French whisky. Distilled at the Lochranza Distillery in 1996 and aged there until 2012, these two casks were then shipped to the Cognac Region of France where they were re-casked in an ex-Cognac cask until being bottled in 8+ years later. So while it was born and spent most of its life in Scotland, it was not bottled there and thus, does not meet the legal requirement to be called a Scotch. Still, an amazing single malt whisky from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🥃

Had a terrific time pouring and talking about these two phenomenal barrel picks on last night’s virtual tasting. We often get the chance to talk about a few different expressions but it’s rare that a client selects two barrel picks! Getting to talk about bourbons, ryes, mashbills, bottled in bond, barrel proof and the selection process was so much fun. The attendees loved being able to dive deep into both of these as well - so many great questions and side discussions were able to be had.

If you’re looking for a fun and engaging event for your next meeting, sales presentation, or team happy hour give us a call! In-person or virtual, we can make it happen. We’ll even supply the whiskey glasses!

Fresh crack Friday’s never tasted so good

With the weather cooling off a bit, but summer hanging on in the afternoon it was time to crack this big boy A 27yr Cask Bottling yielded 853 bottles at 48% and was exclusive to UK and Europe. Distilled in 1992 and spending its life in a port pipe gives this whisky a distinctive mahogany color. At 48% and 20 min in the glass there is not hint of alcohol on the nose, just every classic Dronach note you’d think of: raisins, dates, stewed plums and rich toffee and caramel. The palate doesn’t disappoint either with big waves of dark fruit berries and cinnamon clove spice in the middle. The finish is long and lingering, letting you really have the time necessary to dissect this casks complexities and ever changing notes. Hope you’re having a great Friday too- Sláinte!

Just a typical Monday visiting friends…..

Had to drop off a recent single barrel of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and after splitting bottles we needed a few pours to discuss the next pick. Well, what better than the Russel’s Reserve 15yr to sip while mulling that question over.

Now, you know we’ve killed a bottle of the Russel’s Reserve 13 already and everyone, including me, thought it was crazy stupid good. This 15yr doesn’t seem like it should be worlds apart- after all, what does 2more years really mean? Well, darker color, deeper fruit notes, oakier and drier palate and an insane sweet cherry finish that reminds me more of Old Forester than Wild Turkey. Where the 13yr is bright and light fruit this 15yr comes in dark and deep. It’s a stunning bourbon that is packed with flavor and complexity.
