Hay season 2026 is a wrap. Baled the last 10 acres of second cutting today. Perfect drying weather the past 3 days with bright sun, breeze, and low humidity. Total 3,230 bales first cutting. 930 bales second cutting and 42 round bales second cutting.

We can't thank our neighbor and friend, Mike Berry enough for saving our 16 acres of rained on hay and helping us become marshmallow growers. He took off work early to round bale 44 bales for us. Then while he made a delivery of his own hay, Farmer Mike made 22 roundtrips bringing them in from the field. Mike came back at 9:15pm to wrap them for baylage because of their high moisture content. A broken chain and repair by tractor light and we finished up at 12:15am. If you don't think there are good people in the world you are obviously not hanging out with our friends and neighbors. This weekend we will return the favor by taking care of their horses, cows and chickens.

My buddy, Mike Berry and I replaced some parts on the baler after first cutting and she is making nicer bales than she has in years. We got 11 acres of 2nd cutting done Saturday, but the weatherman's 10% chance of rain on Sunday turned into an all day rain with 16 acres on the ground. Hopefully I can get it dried in the next couple days to salvage cow hay out of it.

The double rake worked great for 6 acres, but then my lead rake had a malfunction, so I was back to a single rake for the last 5.
