Sailing in for a brilliant landing, Demian powered across the finish line in turf maiden race at Tokyo on June 13 to become the first winner for his sire Flightline, the Summer Wind-bred World's Best Racehorse of 2022.

Renowned international jockey Damian Lane, who steered the juvenile c**t through traffic to gain the victory after biding his time early praised his mount for handling the race like "an old pro" even though it was his first start.

Sent off as the second choice in the 1400m (about 7 furlongs) turf dash for "newcomers" behind Ecoro Nine, a son of 2021 European Horse of the Year St Mark's Basilica, Demian handled his task with ease, bursting between rivals in the stretch run and galloping out strongly after finishing 1 1/4 lengths in front of pacesetter Desert Spirit (Isla Bonita). Time was 1.22.8 on a course rated good to firm.

Video of the race can be found here: https://jra.webcdn.stream.ne.jp/web/jra/onetag2020/eqPcPlayer2.html?target=202603050306

Trainer Makoto Saito has been praising the $1.7 million Keeneland September purchase by owner Naohiro Sakaguchi for his "suppleness" despite his robust size. Demian was the biggest runner in the field of 7 c**ts and 2 fillies at 480kg (about 1,058 pounds).

"He has a muscular, well-built physique. He's been getting better with each training session. He's easy to handle and runs with light footwork," Saito said before the race. And afterward, Saito added: "He is still a bit heavy (plump), so he will only get better from here."

Bred in Kentucky by Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds, Demian is out of the Curlin mare Mira Alta, a half sister to G1 winner Great Hunter (Aptitude) and thus he is a half brother to G3 Peter Pan Stakes winner Promise Keeper (Constitution) as well as to GSP stakes winner Wicked Awesome (Awesome Again) and GSP multiple winner War Stopper (Declaration of War. Mira Alta also produced a yearling full sister to Demian.

Now that Fightline's first winner has safely landed, there is so much to anticipate for the season ahead. More takeoffs will be forthcoming shortly, including the June 13 entry of Flightline's daughter House Boat Party in the sixth race at Churchill Downs. House Boat Party, produced by the American Pharoah mare Lake Garda, is the 4-to-1 second choice on the morning line.

Flightline's first starter, the c**t Greenwell, finished a good second to front-running Balloteer in a 5f maiden special weight dash at Churchill Downs on June 12.

Throughout the course of history, religion and mythology, the white horse has been a powerful symbol of purity and a link to heavenly redemption. The key ideas connected to the notion of unicorns were an association with grace and Christ himself and that they could magically heal in ways equal to their stunning beauty.

Even today, far from the forests of the Middle Ages where unicorns once roamed through literature, gray and white Thoroughbreds are often beloved on racetracks around the world for their enchanting presence.

Here at Summer Wind, Jane Lyon's "unicorns" -- the pale gray mares in the broodmare band, all of whom have close and elite connections to champions or G1 winners -- dazzle us daily.

Today on this Memorial Day , the spotlight falls on the gray Krissy's Candy (Candy Ride), dam of G1 winner Nutella Fella (Runhappy) among her 3 winners from 3 starters to date.

Krissy's Candy is a big-boned, rather sassy individual who is not averse to stirring up life in the fields when she so chooses. She doesn't much like to be idle and seems to be working on passing along this strong personality to to her c**t by born on April 27.

Among their pranks earlier this month, prior to hot weather and then long stretches of rain in Kentucky, was a purposeful rousing of Flightline's mother Feathered (Indian Charlie) and her c**t by Tapit as that pair rested peacefully in bluegrass dappled by sunlight. Krissy's Candy spotted them from across the field and decided they were far too quiet, and -- with her c**t in complete lockstep against her side -- strode forcefully over to Feathered and her foal, waking them unceremoniously from their nap.

While she didn't push the mild confrontation any further as no one messes with Feathered, she and her son did look a bit pleased with themselves as they turned and sauntered away.

Krissy's Candy's c**t is currently a deep reddish hue, quite striking, especially against his freckled gray mother, but there are silver hairs in his coat indicating he will transform into a unicorn himself.

There already is magic in this pedigree as Krissy's Candy's third dam produced champion sprinter Housebuster.

Her second dam, Dreamscape (Mt. Livermore), produced multiple stakes winner Tax Refund (Artax) and stakes winner Sophia's Song (Bellamy Road). The latter was sold to Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm for $1.35 million in 2023 after producing MGSW Booth (Mitole), who has earned $993,161 to dat; MGSW and G1 victor Bright Future (Curlin), and earner of $947,950 and now a stallion at Claiborne Farm, and G1-placed G2 winner Musical Mischief (Into Mischief), who banked $519,276.

Krissy's Candy, who delivered a filly by Not This Time at Summer Wind in 2025 after being acquired the previous year at the Keeneland November sale, has been bred back to Flightline for 2027.

If we hadn't seen it ourselves, we might not believe it. But then again, history and literature have long shown that the relationship between a mother and her son is a special one that can affect present times and linger into future generations.

The first image in this group tells this story more fully than words can.

Feathered (Indian Charlie) recently took her young son by Tapit -- the full brother to 2022 World's Best Racehorse and American Horse of the Year -- over to a corner of their expansive field.

With a breeze blowing over their backs, they stood quietly and seemed to gaze upon the huge banner promoting Flightline that had hung over Fasig-Tipton's Humphrey S. Finney sale pavilion in Saratoga in 2023 while promoting the champion as a Saratoga graduate. (We thank Fasig-Tipton for gifting Summer Wind with the banner, which is proudly displayed on the wall of a storage facility near the foaling barn.)

To onlookers who happened upon that moment with mother and foal, it was almost as if Feathered was showing her new son how special his family is -- and what he himself might become one day.

And why not? Born on April 21, the c**t undoubtedly possesses the family charisma in looks while possessing his own special attitude.

Watching his relationship with Feathered develop has been so interesting. Long known at Summer Wind as a tough customer who would push aside any other mares and foals in order to be first in line for carrots, Feathered seems to have mellowed over time.

With her now juvenile son Wingmead, also a full sibling to Flightline, Feathered was rather more easygoing than she had been with the champion and her earlier foals. He tended to be very independent and she was fine with that.

Feathered and her 2025 filly, another full sibling to Flightline named Red Sky Dawning, enjoyed a new dynamic: they were more like cherished friends who completely understood one another from the moment the filly arrived. They would stand together for long moments, from their earliest days to the time of weaning, with the mother gently grooming the gray filly's back with her teeth and the filly responding in kind.

This newborn c**t, a bay like Flightline but marked with a unique and artistic swoosh looking like a feathery waterfowl, came into this world like a rascally firecracker. He challenged his mother from the get-go, even interrupting her naps by standing over her and nibbling at her ears, but they now seem to have closely bonded.

We recently spied them sleeping in their stall together, the mare resting her head over the back of the foal, who was curled up against her in the most blissful expression of mother and foal affection.

The future beckons, as Feathered seemed to show her son when they gazed at Flightline's banner.

It was an unforgettable moment, and we hope that all the dreams embodied in their reflection on the family's greatest achievement will ultimately come true in this c**t's own special way.

In our continuing tale of the Summer Wind unicorns -- those bright, virtually white mares with exceptional connections to achievement -- we present New Narration (Tapit), the rarest kind of unicorn since she has produced a G1 winner who has, to date, banked over $3.68 million.

Now 11 years old, New Narration also has a perfect record of 3 winners from 3 starters, led by her son Saudi Crown (Always Dreaming), victor in the G1 Pennsylvania Derby in 2023 and still racing successfully this year with a triumph in the G3 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland in April.

New Narration is a diva. She strikes all kinds of distinctive and photogenic poses, and she also is an alpha type mare who is highly protective and proud of her foals. She brings them right over to introduce them to us.

This year, just like her fellow unicorn and field mate Suchada (Frosted), New Narration produced a filly by Not This Time. While Suchada's daughter is a bright chestnut, New Narration's is blackish in appearance with a healthy salting of silver hairs in her coat that make her appear even more magical as she bounces like a dark shadow alongside her dam.

Born just four days after the Kentucky Derby, the filly can go from zero (i.e. a long nap in the grass) to seemingly 90 mph, zooming across the field with such abandon that her unicorn mother loses all composure and resorts to nervously nickering to her to "Please stop that!" Perhaps her need for speed is due to the fact that she is bred 3x4 to Storm Cat and on a cross that so far, while not tried all that much, has yielded 25% stakes winners from starters.

With this tempestuous filly as well as her 2yo daughter named Nashville News (Nashville), who now in training for Jane Lyon, and a yearling c**t by Justify, New Narration could be just beginning to reveal to us the full scope of her magical story.

Sundays are the best days, offering the world a time for rest, reflection and gratitude for all that is around us.

These two filly foals clearly are grateful for their friendship and the life they are leading in a quiet field tucked in the middle of Summer Wind. As they sweetly touch noses, as if in a tender childhood kiss, they also have much to be proud of in their immediate families.

On the left is the daughter of Coal Front and Lailoni (Brethren) who is the half sister to 6-time stakes winner Mythical (St Patrick's Day) and on the right is the daughter of McKinzie and Solarri (Malibu Moon), whose dam is a half sister to GSW Mohawk Trail (Pioneerof the Nile) and who is out of a half sister to the dam of twice champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive.

With lots to talk about, these two also share bright futures.

From shy foal to bold stakes winner -- we are celebrating homebred HOW ABOUT NOW right now as Summer Wind's newest stakes winner!

By Not This Time of Taylor Made Farm and out of A Star Is Born (Galileo), How About Now -- a maiden special weight winner at Keeneland in April for trainer Rusty Arnold -- put all her talents on display today in the $150,000 Cleopatra Handicap at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Ridden with confidence by Axel Concepcion (and we thank him for his kind words in the post-race interview as well as his skills in the saddle), How About Now broke a bit awkwardly, as the race chart notes and raced 7th of 10 early.

From there, however, Concepcion and the dark bay/brown filly saved ground until the stretch run, where she was boldly sent between rivals and boldly accepted the command.

Bursting to the lead, How About Now drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths while covering the mile on a turf course rated firm in 1:37.12. Especially considering that the field contained well-bred runners owned by the likes of Coolmore, Qatar Racing, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and others, How About Now has taken a big step forward in her 5th career start. Her earnings now total $154,709.

How About Now also becomes the second stakes winner for her dam, who also has produced Group 1-placed stakes winner Fleet Review (War Front) and the 11-time Japanese winner Dual Career (War Front).

Video of the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSINdv4EL98

It's also exciting that Summer Wind already has a pair of winsome siblings to How About Now in the farm's broodmare band: In the Shallows (War Front), who has a c**t at her side by and is back in foal to the undefeated champion, and Memory Road (Quality Road), who has a yearling c**t by champion Up to the Mark (Not This Time) and is among the first mares in foal to Summer Wind's Triple Tap (Tapit), the half brother to Triple Crown victor American Pharoah.

We are all about How About Now's big win today! Cheers to all connections and to her family, equine and human.

The blessings of Mother's Day continue to shine on Summer Wind as today the farm was gifted a special exacta.

Two outstanding mares in the broodmare band -- Irish stakes winner Key To My Heart (Galileo), a daughter of G1 winner A Z Warrior (Bernardini), and multiple graded stakes-placed Dua (Arrogate), from the family of Canadian Broodmare of the Year Rare Opportunity (Danzig Connection) -- foaled c**ts by this morning within about 20 minutes of one another.

Those special deliveries bring a rousing close to Summer Wind's foaling season. And what a foaling season it has been!

The final tally yields 14 fillies and 12 c**ts, with 28 mares checked in foal so far for 2027 as the farm continues to complete matings and count days before finishing preparations for next year's crop.

In looking over the list of 2026 foals, we find three by Not This Time -- and all fillies! as compared to last year's yearling group that included three Not This Time c**ts -- as well as two foals by Into Mischief, one filly and one c**t; one filly foal by Gun Runner; two c**ts by Tapit, including the full brother to , and an even dozen foals by Flightline with 8 c**ts and 4 fillies in that special group.

Other sires of this season's foals include Summer Wind-bred McKinzie, with a pair of fillies; champion Elite Power, with one filly; and Muth, Gunite and Coal Front with one foal each (a c**t, a filly and a filly, respectively).

There is so much still to report in the matings that have been successful to date and the mares already checked in foal, including four covered by Gun Runner and six by Flightline. More on those coming in the future.

For now, we take a deep breath of thanksgiving for all the safe foalings, healthy mares and babies, and, hopefully, the many future winners to come. ❤🥕

They could be called the unicorns of Summer Wind. Four young mares, all mostly white in appearance and, hopefully, eventually the stuff of legends and myth through their progeny.

Each has the bloodlines for folklore as each is either the dam of, or sibling to, a G1 winner or champion or, in two cases, closely related to a Broodmare of the Year. Thus, there are no better features for a .

The first in this series will focus on Suchada, a now 8-year-old daughter of Frosted who arrived at Summer Wind last fall after Jane Lyon purchased her at the Fasig-Tipton November sale. Suchada is a half sister to 2024 Broodmare of the Year Puca (Big Brown) as well as to G1 winner Finnegan's Wake (Powerscourt).

The genes are extra strong in the family as the extraordinary Puca has produced Kentucky Derby winner Mage and Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch, both by Good Magic, as well as G1 winner Baeza, who is by Summer Wind-bred McKinzie.

Just two days after this year's Kentucky Derby was run for the 152nd time, Suchada produced a fancy chestnut filly by Not This Time at Summer Wind and it seems like ever since then, the two have been racing across the green fields of spring.

While it's true Suchada does not have a horn and is not a unicorn in the sense of the creature that William I first emblazoned on the Scottish royal coat of arms in the 12th century, it's easy to see her as the people of that time saw their unicorns -- a symbol of power and purity, a fierce and noble being who could heal the body and spirit. In Celtic art, the unicorn was often depicted with other symbols linking it to an eternal cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

In this way of thinking, Suchada is a portal to the future at the farm, with hope that she can carry on the stellar production record of Puca while establishing her own family branch. In addition to her Not This Time filly, she also has a juvenile c**t by Cyberknife and a yearling filly by Elite Power.

Yet at this time, in this moment, it is more than enough to just delight in the imagination of magic and myth while watching Suchada and her foal float across the fields.

(The other three unicorn mares of Summer Wind will be featured soon; each can take the breath away and run wild in the mind with thoughts of what might yet be possible)

In the quiet first minutes of Mother's Day, not long after midnight as darkness blanketed Kentucky, the miracle of life blazed brightly under the barn lights, deep in the straw.

Park Avenue (Quality Road), as mare as lovely and well-bred as her name implies and a graded stakes-placed stakes winner and direct female descendant of the mother and sister of Triple Crown winner Assault, delivered her third foal in the best celebration we could hope for on behalf of all the broodmare mothers at Summer Wind.

The newborn filly by , a full sister to the promising 2yo c**t Powerline and to his handsome yearling brother, arrived in divinely-made beauty, a rich bay with white splashed on both front legs and one hind leg as well as a shining star on her forehead.

She is the 5th foal who has arrived in a baby blitz at Summer Wind just since the Kentucky Derby was run on May 2. Each one is special gift, reminding us of the sanctity and blessing of life itself and all that may be yet to come.

Happy Mother's Day to all who nurture and cherish life, who care for the young through the sacrifices and rewards, and who give us all the chance for a better future because of their love.

(Security camera photo of the moment Park Avenue greeted her newborn filly with the softest of nuzzles)

Foaling season may be winding down, but the activity at Summer Wind has been fast and furious since the week before the Kentucky Derby. There have been no fewer than 5 foals born since April 27, so we have lots of catching up to do here with introductions as we await the final trio of foals due in 2026.

On this beautiful spring in the midst of the Classic season, there is none more worthy of a special spotlight than this c**t.

Born on May 5 and just 2 days old in this image, the c**t is by undefeated Horse of the Year and World's Best Racehorse -- who won two of North America's most prestigious races at the Classic distance of 1 1/4 miles, the Breeders' Cup Classic and the Pacific Classic, while also capturing the elite Metropolitan Mile and sprinting 6 furlongs in 1:08 & change twice in his only starts at that distance.

The c**t's mother -- who already has been teaching him how to run -- is Holiday Music (Harlan's Holiday), who is a half sister to undefeated Horse of the Year and Triple Crown victor Justify. Her sire is, of course, the sire of Into Mischief, who has led all sires on the continent for seven consecutive years and has also sired three winners of the Kentucky Derby. So much horsepower in the blood of this c**t!

Holiday Music already has produced stakes winner One Man Team (Nyquist), and she has a promising juvenile c**t in training with Bill Mott named Jackpot Rocket (Tapit), as well as a yearling full sister to the newborn c**t.

The future is here -- and it is already giving us goose bumps for all that could be. 🌹
