Great tips from the South Carolina Cattlemen's Association about making it through this drought

Although we are getting some much needed rainfall, the drought is far from over across the state. Forage is stressed and vulnerable at this time, but meeting nutritional requirements of the animal is always crucial.
To protect forages, be sure to avoid overgrazing and consider making a sacrifice area out of your least productive pasture/paddock. Now is also a good time to evaluate your herd and herd size. Stocking rate is an important factor in forage success during perfect conditions, making stressful weather conditions even more important to stay within the stocking rate of your available acreage. It is also important to remember not to rush into grazing when your pastures begin to recover. Take note of grazing heights before allowing cattle back out to graze. Forage should be at least 6-8 inches tall before you begin grazing it.
Don't forget the minerals! Drought stressed forage can be lower in quality and cattle should be provided with supplemental feed, salt, and minerals to ensure dietary requirements are being met!
