One of my favorite investment combos for baby chickens! First off I just really like this brooder that we got (we got 2 of them). And we paired it with a digital temperature controller so that the heat lamp turns on at 85 degrees and turns off at 95 degrees, keeping the temperature right where we want it and greatly reducing the chance of overheating and fire. The controller also has a second plug that can be set up to run a fan to cool it between certain temperatures. It was actually made for a reptile enclosure but we thought it would excel in a brooder application.

And it begins! We’re on day 21 of incubation and they’re starting to hatch out! This is Rhode Island Red and black copper maran crossed with a buff Orpington rooster to give us “Red Orpingtons” and “Maran Orpington” We’re very excited!
