Our Kune Kune ladies have carefully crafted this marvelous mud hole.

Fun fact: Pigs can’t sweat. Water and mud are essential for helping them cool off. A good coating of mud also protects their skin from sunburn and pesky bugs.

While it may look like a muddy mess, it plays a very important role in their space. This particular mud hole has plenty of room for all four pigs to stretch out and nap—one of their very favorite things to do…next to eating snacks, of course!

WAYS TO EXPERIENCE A RARE DAY IN JUNE

A Rare Day in June is a small educational farm near Gibbon, Nebraska, where children and families can observe, discover, explore and connect through meaningful, hands-on farm experiences.

We are not a traditional petting zoo. Our programs are intentionally small, guided and designed to help children learn while building confidence around animals and the natural world.

FIELD TRIPS
Educational visits are available for schools, preschools, daycares, homeschool groups and other organizations. Programs can include animal science, eggs and incubation, fleece and fiber, feed and nutrition, and other hands-on farm learning.

AFTER-SCHOOL FARM CLUBS — COMING THIS FALL
Limited-enrollment farm education groups for school-age children. Each group will meet once weekly for a four- or six-week themed series featuring guided animal experiences, investigations and projects.

TINY TOT FARM TIME — COMING THIS FALL
A Grown-Up & Me farm experience for children who are not yet school age. Each meeting will include a simple animal or farm theme, guided exploration and an age-appropriate hands-on activity.

HOMESCHOOL FARM SCHOOL — COMING THIS FALL
Small-group, hands-on courses created especially for homeschool learners. Classes will meet weekly in four- or six-week themed sessions focused on subjects such as animal science, chickens and incubation, seeds and soil, fleece and fiber, and farm ecosystems.

FARM BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Do birthdays differently with a private, guided farm experience created for your child and guests. Parties can include animal visits, activities and time to celebrate together.

PRIVATE GROUP EXPERIENCES
Playgroups, youth groups, church groups and families may contact us about arranging a private educational farm visit.

Packets have been making their way to area schools, and we are excited to share what a field trip to the farm can look like!

A Rare Day in June is a place for students to observe, discover, explore and connect. From eggs and chicks, to fleece, feed, and the animals themselves, visits are designed to give kids a hands-on look at agriculture and the everyday workings of a small farm.

Alpacas aren't common on farms—but here, they're treasured.

They produce an amazing natural fiber that is transformed into beautifully soft, warm textiles. Their fleece contains virtually no lanolin, so many people who find sheep's wool irritating can wear alpaca.

They are fairly easy keepers.
Gentle on pastures, low maintenance, and their manure is often called "gold” because it makes an excellent natural fertilizer.

And they are just fun!
Their big curious eyes, with personalities to match. They are always humming, and will gladly accept a treat or a shower from the hose!
